Shorty Block Hugger Headers
Anybody have any Pros or Cons on using these style headers? My only thinking was that that are harder to get to when taking off the pipes for any reason.

I have heard that block huggers won't clear the engine mounts in these trucks....maybe someone else will know for sure.

They do make some that are made for our years,and a few of the guys here are running them, I have seen a few sets on E-bay that WILL NOT fit.

Those Ebay sets were the ones I was looking at... I think mostly it was the price of these headers that attracted me.

That set wont fit/clear the eng stands. Slammed 67 has a set on his truck(sandersens I think)....they fit nice, but are a little pricey. on the shortie headers, you will trade off a little low/mid range tork, for the extra ground clearance. crazyL

Im not looking for ground clearance, since Im not slamming it. Just looking for that price range. All the other headers around that price are used and WELL used. So it was just an option.

Check out Summit's own line of headers, They are pretty reasonably priced in comparison, and you know they are a brand name made for summit. Plus, you could drive up on a day off and pick them up. Ron |

I dont know what you want to spend on headers, but there are severals full lenghts sets out there for a decent price. I am running a set of painted Hooker comps(around &140-150 through summit or jegs). The headmans are also a decent header, & a few less dollars. To get into coated headers, you will send a few bucks. if you were close to il , i have a good used set of headmans(cheap). my longhorn is a 3/5 drop, with more drop on the plans......the dr side collector hangs a little low for what I plan to do. Block headers for our year of trucks?? I asked last time I was there, ( Summit 2 weeks ago) But the guy said they didn't have any block hugger headers that would fit, But that idiot, also said they didn't have any spark plug wire looms, ( you know the aftermarket fancy type) I looked around for a while, found a different kid, and he showed them to me. AMAZINGLY !! right behind the guy on the counter that I had asked before ! Did I have a few things sarcasticly to say to him.. Like Hey Bud,,,, You need to remove your sun glasses inside, you missed seeing the pieces I asked you about and they are right behind you ???!! OHHHH, You don't have sun glasses on do you? sorry my mistake !

Can't you use 3/4 length Chevelle headers on these trucks to resolve the ground clearence issues?

i didn't have to trim anything, they bolted right up. someone told me that i have my motor in th v6 position, but i am not sure if that would make a difference. my motor is pretty close to the firewall.

Ok, here is what you do, get those block huggers and a couple of turbos off an late 80's T-Bird Turbo Coupe. Weld a the correct flange on the collector of the header. Flip the headers upside down and mount the turbos. Now run your exhaust

I think you guys are looking for "shortie headers" not "block huggers". They make shorties for are trucks they are swept back for the correct clearence. Huggers are used on early rods (20's 30's 40's) because of the narrow frame rails they need to "hug the block" and the collect is staight down the two center cyls because the staight axle or Mustang II suspension usally sits alot father forward then our trucks.

i'm using the newer style mounts, the ones that are the clamshell type mounts, and the block hugger headers won't fit. the driver's side tube 1 hits the mount. i'm going to the mid-length to full-lenght headers

I think for the best price for full length you can't beat Heddman (thick flange). A friend of mine was running the Summit brand and he was having problems with exhaust leaks (headers to block). When he called Summit to order another set for his car the salesman highly recommended HOOKERS (that is what I am running on my car:ceramic coated) For A lowered truck like ours I would get the Sanderson from someone like Early Classic. The worst thing about driving my car and the headers is SPEED BUMPS Points tp ponder

Pat - the 6 cyl position is further back toward the firewall, which is also the 4x4 v8 position. I don't think he meant to say v6, but I'm only assuming.
