Re: 1954 Chevy 3600 Truck - 8 lug wheels hubcaps?

The 8 lug steel wheel in question will work. Dexstar trailer wheels work good, Wheel Vintiques has them too. Also, Ford E250/E350 van rims work good also. Make sure you have 4.25" or LESS backspacing or you're dead in the water. You won't clear the tie rod.

You'll have to install hubcap clips. Most vendors have them. Here's how.

THe 54/55 trucks use a Bowtie hubcap. I've NEVER seen an aftermarket replacement for them. All that is availible is the script type that the 53 and earlier trucks use. My 54 had Hubcaps on it, luckily. I bought a parts truck and was able to get 2 more. I'm treating them like gold bars.

These will work as they are 3.5 backspacing.

Re: 1954 Chevy 3600 Truck - 8 lug wheels hubcaps?

Here's a couple links on the subject

http://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/...1158249/1.html

http://www.stovebolt.com/ubbthreads/.../748598/1.html

I have Ford rims on mine right now. Everything is good.

I know some update to the modern style tie rod end so it's not so close to the tire.

I've never tried to mount my hubcaps, but they fit in the center just fine.

There's always a generic Blank hub cap. Which isn't that bad.

Also, the 67-72 Chevy hub caps are kind of cool.

Re: 1954 Chevy 3600 Truck - 8 lug wheels hubcaps?

I purchased Stainless moons from HubCapMike. I have a '50 3600. these will cover and clear the rear axle housing. Just need to make a few measurements over the nubs. I went with trim rings as well. edit: wheels are 8 lug fords 16"

You are thinking the smaller hubcaps and not full hubcaps?

The wheels that are on the truck now look like the "bling" wheels that many of the local tires stores push.

Re: 1954 Chevy 3600 Truck - 8 lug wheels hubcaps?

The 16x6 or 16x7 isgood for your truck. Just make sure you get the right backspace. The Ford works good. The ones I have are right around 4.25 backspace. A little less would be better. I had a rim given to me that was a 4.5 backspace (I believe it was a GM), it absolutely wouldn't fit the front. It is fine on the rear, but not the front.

Here's a good link that shows the Ford Wheels, they price them at $75.

http://ricksontruckwheels.com/wheels-oe.php

Call this place too, they have new take offs, may be able to hook you up. They used have parts inventory online, but not anymore. http://www.famvans.com/

Here's s Ford wheel on the front of my 54.

Re: 1954 Chevy 3600 Truck - 8 lug wheels hubcaps?

Here's 2007- 2010 Ford rim. I think it looks more like the OEM. It doesn't have the hubcap nubs, but would be good for a hubcap mounted with clips.

I've always thought they would be cool with no hubcap, just chrome lugnuts and chrome bolt covers on the rear hub.

Re: 1954 Chevy 3600 Truck - 8 lug wheels hubcaps?

For white wall tires you will probably need to go with 15 inch or 16 inch wheels to be able to buy the available white walls that will fit the truck.

Here is a link to a 16 x 6.5 8 lug wheel. http://www.wheelsandcaps.com/p-23674...6x65-8009.aspx That company has several plain steel 8 lug offerings but they are reconditioned used wheels. It might help your search for the wheels you want to look for though as their photos are good. main web page link here. http://www.wheelsandcaps.com/c-2285-...aspx?pagenum=2

Guys remember, 1954Chevy3600 is in Istanbul Turkey so shipping and logistics are going to be a challenge for him.

Re: 1954 Chevy 3600 Truck - 8 lug wheels hubcaps?

Coker shows new 8 lug 16 inch wheels powdercoated black for 115 US

https://www.cokertire.com/8-lug-wheel-primed.html

This is just for an example. 8 lug 16 inch 1970 Chevrolet C20 wheel
https://seattle.craigslist.org/tac/wto/5960047315.html

Ford 16 inch wheels. I use a Ford 8 lug rim as a spare on my 3/4 ton GMC. again just as an example https://portland.craigslist.org/wsc/wto/5956927334.html

Wide whitewalls are going to be even more expensive for 16 inch wheels than for 15 inch wheels though.

Just for info: classicparts has the correct 54 hub caps but only for 1/2 ton 3100 trucks. http://www.classicparts.com/mobile/1.../#.WIE53IE8KaM

Re: 1954 Chevy 3600 Truck - 8 lug wheels hubcaps?

This is the correct hubcap for a 3600 series truck not mine (they are expensive not repopped) http://www.ebay.com/itm/NOS-1954-Che...BYK21t&vxp=mtr. Will not mount to newer bump type wheels, you'll will need clips. Whitdog76 posted a link to the clip installation to modern wheel page. IMO, blackwalls look better on 3/4 ton trucks. Just add silver ring to outer edge of a gloss black wheel to simulate the old school lock ring.
