After market radio

I am looking at getting a stereo but do not want to hack up my dash so far not much luck finding a new radio with the shaft knobs --- what are you guys using ???

got one of the custom autosound units....think it was under 200 at the time...wouldnt brag about the sound but i think the kickpanel speakers are more to blame than the radio

custom autosound sucks , retrosound is the way to go , it costs more but is worth it , fits stock location

little pricey, but man nothing looks better than a stock radio in my opinion. And who would want to steal a stock radio system.

There is a guy in chino hills that does it and it isn't cheap. But damn, if you can solder and have half a brain, you could buy the components and do it yourself it looks so easy.

Just search ebay, there still alot of new "NOS" shaft radios out there. You can add the modern abilities to these radios by using in-line devices so you can play off your iphone or other equipment. Do your reserch because the new modern stuff is IMO chinese Junk.

I stuck an old (NOS) Clarion casette AM FM in mine. Used the Brothers aluminum adapter plate with it. Looks really nice-sounds great with stereo speaker in the dash and singles in each door since they had cut-outs already. No cutting of dash involved BTW.

I had a local radio repair guy add an FM tuner module and AUX input to my AM radio.
Only visible change is a red LED that lights briefly when you switch bands.

I will also recommend the Retrosound. No problems with mine. I bought it thru jegs or summitt (don't remember which) but I do remember it was much cheaper than directly from Retrosound. My dash had been butchered so I used a black face plate to cover the butchering,

I have had Mike Hagan do stock radios to 180w with all the new features...and no, it isn't cheap.

But what I use on my drivers these days are old stereos made for these trucks that people were either throwing away or giving away. I plan to use the Alpine AM/FM/Cassette with component amp I kept from another truck. I also have a nice Kenwood Stereo. These are what I ran in my trucks all these years.and they always looked perfectly normal. In fact, it wasn't cool to have a hokey factory radio. If I was doing finer restorations on higher end trucks like I used to I'd go with one from Mike Hagan. But these days I just drive and enjoy them and I enjoy listening to my radio more than looking at it. All these guys who have to look at the correct factory radio, is that how your engine compartment is...all factory stock? How about the rest of the truck, all factory stock? Then, why does the one component that was common place to be replaced, like adding radial tires, need to look factory?

TRUE, why keep an AM radio, it actually looks out of place in the dash vs a modern 1-din unit to me. Its nice to be able to use it not just look at it

I'm NOT trying to stir the pot but... AM is about the only place to find REAL country music these days! I find myself on the AM side more than the FM lately.
