Bench seat question

Just to clarify. Is an 82 Suburban bench seat the same as the pickup bench seat? They seem like they are, but not sure about the tracks. I found one at a somewhat local salvage yard. I just wanted clarification before I make a trip.

Re: Bench seat question

For the most they are but the tracks maybe different but can swapped out if you already have bench tracks coming out of yours.....your best friend in this scenario would be a tape measure to confirm.....just sayin.........

Re: Bench seat question

I read on another thread, that the tracks are close, just need a little tweaking? And I have seen that they don't fold forward. I'm only asking, just to make sure. The seat is not for me. I salvage seats for restoring/recovering, for customers.

Re: Bench seat question

Depends on if it comes out of the front or back.

Now I had heard that the rear seat was a completely different seat? Now I'm confused.

Re: Bench seat question

I haven't had a squarebody suburban for years but I think they mount different for sure. The sliders bolt flat on the ground as opposed to how the truck sliders have the angle front and rear holes. I also believe they had arm rests.

Re: Bench seat question

The suburban tracks have a different angle on the rear floor mounts. I have put them in a vise and bent them to match the regular cab pickups. The seat backs are stationary in the suburban.

Re: Bench seat question

Our 89 had a folding back seat. So I guess it varies just like trucks.

i have a bench out of 88 square sub to put in a 86 c10. tracks are different. tried to swap tracks from 86 c10 & holes don't line up. front to back is dif length. maybe because it is a 88 r10 or it is a sub ? i will modify & make work.

So the tracks are different. How about the seat itself, are they the same? I know some tilt and some don't. But does the seat itself look the same, as far as the cushion/foam. And were you using a front or rear seat out of a suburban?

Re: Bench seat question

The seat & foam look the same. This is a front seat & looks like I can use the tilt brackets off the 86 on the sub seat.

Well if the frames and foam are the same, then this could be a good thing. Everyone always say the rear seat from a Suburban is almost always in excellent condition, because it rarely gets used. So I can use the foam from these seats to replace the worn out foam bottoms of the truck seats.

Yes the 2nd row is like that, 80/20 split fold down. When I say rear seat, I mean the 3rd row seat. I have heard that they are just like the front truck seat. And the front suburban seat is like the truck seat also, it just doesn't fold. People talk about swapping the folding mechanism, but I don't see how this is done, because the folding mechanism is part of the seat back. It is all welded together.

Re: Bench seat question

So now Im curious.....so the 3rd seat in the Suburban isn't like back seat in the K-5/Blazer where they fit between the wheel wells? I like discussions like this where learn a little more about the differences in these vehicles.............

That's what I'm trying to find out and hope more people will chime in, with pictures. I'm MAINLY, looking for bench seats to restore/recover for the trucks. They are somewhat hard to find, and a lot times, the foam is shot. And $250 for new foam is a lot, in my opinion. So my thought is to find seats that are the same as the trucks, and use parts & foam for the ones that are ruined, like this seat, where the foam is beyond repair.

Re: Bench seat question

I found some pics of the front & 3rd row seats. They do look identical to the trucks bench.

Re: Bench seat question

I noticed that by counting the tuck n roll stripes on each example the seats are different sizes.....the bench truck has 11 on each side and the suburban 3rd row 8 on each side......

Re: Bench seat question

The 3rd row is narrower than the 1st & 2nd row. Will not fit-foam or frame.

Correct. If it was the same I would use the almost perfect 3rd row seat in place of the front buckets in our Burb. Instead, I'm looking for a decent blue bench.

Re: Bench seat question

So front seat only on the Suburban.

Anyone one know about the Crew Cab? Front Bench I would assume is the same, but what about the Rear (2nd Row)?
Not that I have been able to find any crew cabs.

Re: Bench seat question

How about this complication: adapting the folding 80/20 middle seat to a pickup? Probably not, as I think about it. IIRC, the middle seat uses a piano hinge tied to the rear floor of the 'burban. Was thinking it would be cool to have 80/20 (or 65/35, or whatever it is) with the driver seat foldable forward independent of the rest of the truck bench. In any case, I agree with the assessment that the third seat is narrower and sits between the wheelwells. 3 squarebody Suburbans in succession when I was a kid apparently set the stage for the rest of my life.
