Thumbs up Swapping wipe switch

I installed the new to me tach dash today in the 68 cab. The old cluster had the head lights and wiper on the left side both. The new cluster had the wipers on the right hand side.
So I had to lengthen the wires going to the switch to let it reach to the other side. No biggie! Just took a bit longer. I also had to notch the upper dash hole for the head light switch. I installed the new dash pad as well.

After talking to tech support at Air Lift I have found out that the kit I need is 60811. Per the measurements I gave them. Ride height of truck inside spring and inside diameter of springs.

Re: Swapping wipe switch

I've thought of doing the same only opposite and moving the Wiper Washers over to the left, above the Headlight switch, so I could add a manual Throttle knob above my manual Choke on my '71 GMC.
Heck, I could even swap in a 16.5" - '68 3-spoke wheel for the 17" - '71 2-spoke wheel and confound the gullible that my Jimmy is an experimental GMC K/750 from 1968. Wouldn't fool you guys though.

It may fool some. I have seen all kinds of dashes and arrangements.
The only reason I swapped it was the tach dash was for a 71-72 truck, the other was for the 67-69. + I'm use to my 71 dash also and I caught myself reaching up to turn the wipers on with my right hand all the time.

I was only kidding about the deception. One reason I might switch over is that - like you mention - I sometimes get confused too. I've been driving a '68 C/10 since 1973 and bought a '71 Jimmy 4x4 in 1995. At least the headlights are always on the LEFT, but I do have to think -- what truck is this?

OR

?

Went today and picked up some rear window squirters off of late model Envoys.

Tahoe's, Suburbans and anything else with rear washer should work.

The squirters will go on the wiper arm to spray the whole swipe when the wiper is moving. It will clean the window better.

I have them on my 71 also and they work much better than a straight stream.

Re: Swapping wipe switch

I like that gag. Show us more.
Neither of my 2 runners ['68 Stepside, and '71 Jimmy] have operating swisher/sloshers. I usually just splash a half gallon of water from an old antifreeze jug and run the wipers full blast. Cannot access during running in traffic.

I put one in my 71 and it works good. I already have the electric jug in the Ramp truck but didn't get any nozzles. I just picked them up this weekend.
First 2 pictures are the 71 mod. 3 picture is the jug in the ramp truck.
Hopefully tomorrow I get enough time to hook the nozzles up on the Ramp Rat!

Re: Swapping wipe switch

What's the washer fluid jug in the Red truck from?
About 12 years ago,I tried rebuilding the OEM washer squirter assembly from a Checker Auto kit. Total PIA, and then it didn't work. So back to cave splashing with the gallon jugs.
I like your system.

Can't remember what the red truck jug came from been to long ago. The Ramp Rat the jug came from a 90 model Chevy truck. The body was gone it was just a frame and bunch of stuff hanging off of it. I should have gotten the wiring fuse block off of it too!

The washer motor you hook straight to 12v then run a ground to the switch on the dash. Piture for hook up.

So any later-model GM rig ['90s thru Teens] with an un-sundamaged washer jug and an internal pump will do? What's the usual capacity, between 1 and 3 pints?
Tubing runs directly to squirters? Do I bypass the old in-cowl jets? Mine are clogged anyway.

Yes you just run the water tubing to the squriters them selves. Hot wire to pump motor on with key. Ground runs back to dash switch as in my picture. Nothing else changes.

I just finished hooking up the squriters on the Ramp truck and to be honest not to impressed with them as they don't spray like I thought they would. They will do for now though. I'll be looking for some others though.
I also got all my seat belts installed and the passenger side mirror fixed and installed.
