Putting something in holes
Had these awful holes cut in my doors that had some old Pioneer plate speakers that were all rotted out. 4x10s would fit and some no name brands came with grills, but I did a lot of work putting 6.5 Polks in my Retro Autosound kick panel enclosures, so did some searching, customizing, and figuring out to put Polks in the doors too.
These are 4x6 Polk (marine grade) two ways, with 4x6 to 4x10 adapter plates (Sonic Electronix), and Retro Autosound metal grills...I also put baffles on them and a thin layer of rubber dampening on the back of the plastic backing plates of the metal grilles. Here are pictures of the holes and a test fit of the speaker/adapter combination. 4x35 watt Kicker amp has power wired to it (fuse pulled for now) and hope to have RCA cables from the Pioneer BlueTooth head unit and speaker wires run tomorrow or so. Also have the 10" Rockville sub already bumping with the kicks run off the head unit for now.

sKnNyPpY, can you update us on how your setup sounds? I'm especially interested in how the combo of door and kick panel speakers are working out. Is it better than just using door speakers alone or kick panel speakers alone?
Also what kind of work was required to put 6.5 Polks in Retro Autosound kick panel enclosures?

I will hopefully (finally) have the door speakers hooked up this weekend. I ordered some grommets and have to drill out some holes larger to get the flat speaker wire I'm using to fit. With the Kicker amp the Kick panels SHINE! Probably enough sound from just them and the little sub, but I already had the holes and the 4 channel amp...so I'll let your know about the fill with the additional speakers hooked up.
To get the Polk 6.5 to work with the kicks I first had to get grills that would fit IN to the panels and not on top of them sticking out too far. I used Parts Express #260-418 Steel Mesh 2-Piece Grill for 6" Speaker Black. They fit the Polk DB-652 shallow mount speakers perfectly....except for some little metal and plastic tabs at four points around the speaker that I cut off with a little hack saw, then the tabs all lined up. Then the grills were a little too close to the speaker and was contacting the surround, so I cut some little plastic spacer tabs from the rings that were included with the speakers, I couldn't use the whole ring because there were tabs sticking out everywhere. Held the spacers in place with some double stick foam tape and used the little metal fold over tabs the anchor the speakers, spacers, and grill bases to the kick panels in the holes I drilled in them matching the speaker mounting holes. Spray mounted a little rubber insulation on the back of them with slits in it to fit the speaker wire. Did you have any problems with the parking brake pedal hitting the new kick panels?

Brake pedal clears but your shoe scrapes the grill a bit, why I went with the metal ones. The high beam switch must be relocated, but that was pretty easy.

It's finally done and sounds fantastic! It definitely sounds better than just the kick panels alone. It sounds more full with much improved imaging and I can hear it over wind noise and the exhaust with the windows down. I would not do this to a truck that wasn't already cut because even with some wire holes drilled it was a PITA install.
