Charlotte - A Stock 1970 K10 Build

I've enjoyed this site from "afar" for a long time. It is amazing how much the members know and contribute. Now I feel like I can officially join. After a very long search, my project came home yesterday. I live in upstate NY and by a miracle found it in my own backyard. It is a '70 shortbox 4 wheel drive, straight six totally unmolested with only 38,000 miles on it. One repaint and some body work. Time and sitting has not been kind to it, but to find something this rock solid in my own backyard was very unlikely. It was stored in a garage with a concrete floor, not a barn, and the old bias ply tires all still hold air and all the rubber around the windows is not even dried out! Bought it from the next door neighbor of the original owner, with the original bill of sale still in the glove compartment. My goal is to restore it 100% original, poverty hubcaps and all. It's only option is a dealer installed AM radio.

Re: So thankful to be here!

Well welcome aboard NY.
Sounds like you found a rare piece for sure. We don't see many of that combo. Take plenty of pics along the way and post them up as this group feeds on truck pics.

I can relate to searching for a decent project in our neck of the woods. I also looked for quite a while. Before I found something. Someone had one from Virginia. Was going to restore it. But needed to sell it. I probably paid a little too much for it. But by the time you restore all the sheet metal. I probably did OK. Good luck with your project. I get up to Rochester now and then. My sister lives in rush. Let me know if you want me to give you a holler. When I am up that way. Welcome to the form. Great bunch of people here. Tons of information.

Re: So thankful to be here!

I grew up a few hours from you near Jamestown. Yes, everything up there was garbage 20 years ago when I was looking for my first truck, I can't image what's left of one from up there now. I ended up getting a truck that came from SC, then moved there 4 years later

Looks to be a great truck. Not sure if you know this or not, but it's one hell of a rare bird. 1 of 2554 short fleet 4x4s built in 1970.

Re: So thankful to be here!

I agree, Very nice truck! Of course, I am somewhat biased, when it comes the Medium Olive trucks! That sandalwood dash pad looks really good, and that original vinyl seat cover looks to be in excellent condition. If you get a chance, I'd really appreciate a better picture of the seat. My truck originally had a parchment seat, in the base vinyl style just like that, but it was destroyed long ago, and they don't make a copy of it.

Re: So thankful to be here!

I will answer multiple things here. Thanks for the comments and replies! I will post some pics of the motor tonight when I get home. It is all stock except for an after market chrome air cleaner, but the previous owner still had the original. I will post more pics of seat also, it is ripped on drivers side, not sure if saleable or not. I had no idea about the rarity, I just knew any truck in this condition is impossible to find in the rust belt. This truck never left the same road! Since reading your reply I decoded the vin and it is sequence number #909, was built in Tarrytown. I have the receipt from the dealer where it was purchased in Rome, NY on September 1969.

Re: So thankful to be here!

Keeping the color for sure. Remember that color from my youth on several GM products. I've come full circle as my first car at 16 yrs old was a 1970 Chevelle Malibu 307 when it was an "old" car of seven years!

Sweet truck.
You found the needle in the haystack.

That's a truck we certainly need more pics of.
