Is it worth $7500??
I found this 66 chevy and it looks to be in decent shape. The guy told me that the rust has been cut out and it does run. Im just looking for some opinions on what would be a good deal. Here are some pics

Re: Is it worth $7500??
Lol. Yes it is. He said the motor is a 350 and it originally was a manual trans but he put in an auto. I cant figure out why the shifter would be that high

Re: Is it worth $7500??
Are those rust bubbles in the lower right corner of the door frame? Have you seen it it person. If it is not hiding any major rust and runs it sounds like a good price.

Re: Is it worth $7500??
Looks like the rockers are a little rough and the paint job was a tape off and shoot.
The door on the passenger side dented or rusting out? I would give the rockers and cab corners and the bottom of the doors a real close look. I would also look really close above the front windshield to make sure the cab doesn't have rust issues. Overall it looks like it has potential. If it isn't too bad in the areas i listed above, I would think that is a fair price. At least in my area of the country.

I havent seen it in person but i did notice some of the issues you guys pointed out. I was planning on buying it and tearing it down to the frame. Just looking for a new project since i got my 68 finished.

The shadowy body panels kinda scare me. Bad lighting, or bad bodywork?

You're paying for someone else's work that you are not going to keep. Skip it, find an unmolested one.

Re: Is it worth $7500??
I'd get down & look at the cab support brackets & rust in the floor & frame. That pretty paint can hide a lot of Bondo. Look & see how it was lowered. It might be cobbled. It looks like a nice truck for the money.

Re: Is it worth $7500??
The door gaps at the fender and cowl don't look too great. But, for that price I don't know that I would expect perfection. If there's no major red flags I'd say it's a fair price (at least here in the midwest) and there is probably close to that invested in it.

The way a vehicle has been painted usually tells you all you need to know about how everything else was done on it. The guy that painted that truck didn't do anyone any favors. You will find many more issues hiding under that paint. No one invests all the time, effort and money into doing proper bodywork just to paint it like that. I wouldn't pay any more than half of his asking price, and thats pushing it. $7,500 can get you a better truck than that. |

Looks like some sub-standard work to me. When someone paints the gas neck rubber that should tell you all you need to know.
Looks like a bondo buggy to me !!!! Don't walk away from it, RUN ................................. |

By the time you get any of them looking really good, you'll have double that price into it. Might as well make sure its done right and make you're money count while you're spending the same dough.

Re: Is it worth $7500??
If you want that green with that shifter, yes. Otherwise, not in a million years. It's only worth what the seller has spent on it if you were planning on exactly the same thing.
EDIT: Oops! I should read all the posts, I see you've already passed! Good call. |

I know dme already said he's going to pass on the truck -- but what's up with the stance? It looks lower in back than in front.

Snd if you plan on doing a full resto don't waste money on someone elses project. You'd just be throughing away $5k right off the bat with this one.

Re: Is it worth $7500??
In my opinion where you are determines most of the price...I build about 10 60-66's a year from old school to LS . People ask me how it's worth all the time and it really depends on where it is . Out on the west coast prices are higher for sure and they go down as you head east. The question i would ask is where do i look for issues and where would the hidden spots be ....You have had some great advice already if it's rusty under the cab and supports that adds to the build budget really fast . The other place to look is the back of the cab between the cab corners along the bottom lip . That is a place everyone bondos over and never fixes right. When you look at the rockers from the underneath make sure they are put in right and there is a backside panel to the rocker . I just tossed out a customers cab because it was all hidden so well and ya i can fix it but it's expensive . Don't worry much about the fenders they are cheap new, doors that have been half skinned don't last long if they haven't been done right . I like to check the bottom of the door to the rocker for a bow and the same for the door on the latch side to the cab . .....Good luck and may the truck cooperate with your plans

Re: Is it worth $7500??
I'd pass.
I don't want to be rude, so it may just be me, but there's some things about it like the others have posted, but I'd be nervous even at $5000.
