Brake Booster Pushrod

1969 K5 Blazer, 10 bolt front, 14 bolt FF rear, disc/ disc, 1977 MC. Having trouble getting pressure built up to bleed my brakes. In this picture you can see the pushrod coming out of booster is up against the firewall. I'm wondering if I need to shorten it? Is it possible it is not releasing completely? Is there a specific length it should be?
