Heater control face won't fit in dash flush

I cannot seem to get the heater control face to fit through the dash completely. It is hitting in the bottom portion, which is preventing the holes from lining up. It seems like the dash needs to be "stretched" apart to allow it to fit through. Does anyone else have any prior experience with this?

Twist it down more before entering the opening, your fighting the cables as you twist it down, should go right in if approached with the right angle prior to putting it through the opening, the thin chrome edge is supposed to sit flush all the way around

Re: Heater control face won't fit in dash flush

I had to pull the defroster hose out so I could see what was the problem on mine. It ended up being the fan wiring was routed wrong.

Do you have pics of the fan wiring and/or the heater sitting in flush?

No luck on photo of the back side of the controls. How ever once I pulled the hose off and got it out of the way I was able to see the wires were pulled tight and I was able to unplug them and reroute them. Here is the way my heater control sits. It is in at the bottom slightly due to the gauge mount hold it in. The screws that hold controls also hold the guages.

Broke some rivets and jb weld in the process . No dice... I also noticed that the bracket underneath the dash and steering column with the 3 bolts and is not aligned perfectly either. Yikes

Did the face snap off of the back of the control unit?

2 of the 4 little rivets broke that hold the face to the bigger bracket

Re: Heater control face won't fit in dash flush

Are the levers all good? If so I have a spare I picked up in case I broke a lever or had a cable break. It's a silver face later unit that is in good shape. I'll trade you if your interested.

Re: Heater control face won't fit in dash flush

I will keep that in mind if I need to. Thanks. Might just fit it with some countersunk screws and put a new decal over the top
