Corvette Big Block Exhaust Manifolds fit!

I thought they might fit so I bought a set of repro manifolds from Summit, there pretty reasonable, about $130 each if I remember correctly. I fit up the drivers side last night and it fit no problem, its close to the engine mount so I am ordering the corvette motor mount heat shield today.
BTW, the repro driver side is '69 style even though its listed as the later one, the difference is the exit on the earlier one is angled towards the side of the vehicle a bit.

I haven't tried the other side but don't think it will be a problem since that head sits further back on the engine.

If your not familiar with them, look up a picture, left side is very long, right side kind of long, they are the longest style GM made. Its really the only difference in car and corvette engines and should be attributed to the corvettes higher factory HP rating, I don't know how many HP they are worth but has to be something.

Re: Corvette Big Block Exhaust Manifolds fit!

thanks Randy for this info...good to hear they fit...I am in need of manifolds for a healthy BB project truck I am working on and was thinking about using corvette ones but had reservations about buying for fear of fitment issues..good deal!!

Re: Corvette Big Block Exhaust Manifolds fit!

excellent!! i seen the price of these a few years back at Speedway, I think it was Speedway, and wondered to myself about them. I'm very glad you tried them. Now whenever I get the chance to start on my 69 Burb, this will definitely be the route I go. I much rather put on these manifolds versus headers, even more so than Chevelle BBC headers!
Any info on the Corvette motor mount heat shield? My BBC will be using the '72 mounts.

Re: Corvette Big Block Exhaust Manifolds fit!

Awesome. I have a set in the shop waiting to do the 427 swap in my '69. From reading threads off and on over the years it seems the passenger fits easily but driver side is the issue. Your experience suggests not! Excellent.

Pics would be great I will be watching.

Re: Corvette Big Block Exhaust Manifolds fit!

I'm so disappointed....
Installed the RH manifold tonight and it bolts right in but...

It dumps straight into the frame over the top of the rear brake line.

Its not even like you could notch the frame a little, you would have to remove almost all of the lower flange and move the brake line.

I am going to lay it out on the bench and see if it could be angle milled at the head to create enough clearance which seems doubtful and expensive.

I will post back after I determine how much clearance can be gained by angle milling.
I will drag out my steel top bench, clamp down the manifold, measure the height at the exit, then calculate the max angle to be milled, then shim it up, clamp it down and see what can be gained.
The manifold clears the motor mount and has plenty of starter motor clearance so angle milling could work.
