1966 Stepside Son/Dad project
In about 48 hours this guy will be arriving. Six cylinder that I think is pretty solid. It will be my son's first car and we are hoping to make small fixes right away...lower it, shorten the bed or trade for a short bed, shorten frame, fix/replace front fenders, disc brakes, seat belts, do something about the 70s paint. We've got about six months before he gets his license. We are not experts in car restoration, so could get interesting lol

Re: 1966 Stepside Son/Dad project
Not starting off good. The seller told me there was a title in the glovebox....Only thing in there was a receipt for paint. Not happy. Claims it will be here in a few days, but I guess we will see. I told him if there is no title he can make the five hour drive and pick it up.

Re: 1966 Stepside Son/Dad project
Seller swears he is sending it. We will see. In the meantime, we completed our first small task. The window wouldn't roll up. I went to remove the handle and window roller and someone had caulked them to hold them in place. They had been stripped. So, I cut off the handles so I could take off the door panel. Was able to fix it, but now noticed it is missing a guide piece that keeps out the water. It will be in the third pic

Re: 1966 Stepside Son/Dad project
Very nice truck...I would suggest keeping the original parts instead of buying aftermarket...especially the body panels...It is Way easier to fix than replace

Re: 1966 Stepside Son/Dad project
Nice Truck and a great first car. I'm looking forward to seeing how this build progresses. I'm with Johns 66 ( especially with body panels) you're much better off fixing originals than trying to make re-pops fit

Re: 1966 Stepside Son/Dad project
Thanks guys. Good advice. Update on the title. I called Idaho DMV and they said they issued the seller a new title and he should have it to mail to me today. (I hope)

Re: 1966 Stepside Son/Dad project
Got title finally. The truck needed a new inside handle. I knew where one was on my families property. There is an old early 60s c10 my Grandpa used as dam of all things to hold back water. It is filled with boulders etc... I figured Id go down with and see if I could get it out. Its about a half mile from our house. In between is a meadow that is about 4 inches deep in spring flood water and spring hay growing for cattle. I didnt want to smash the hay with our side by side, so I walked. First trip, found out it wasnt going to come out easy. Went back to house got a sawzall. Cut about half way through when battery went dead. lol. Went back charged and third time was a charm...got it. The locking screw is not going to come out. Should I drill it out? Just buy one off line?
Btw on way back on one of the trips found some bear prints in the mud |

What an interesting start. Recovering parts from a flooded field and a bear. Waiting to hear the rest, should be fun.

Re: 1966 Stepside Son/Dad project
Update. We should have it back from the shop first of the week. Had wiring done, rust fixed, shoulderbelts, windshield, shorten bed. When we get it back, we are going to work on body and bed and hopefully have it painted before my son's 16th bday. Heres a pic from the shop yesterday
