door difference in years

i have a 1972 chevy long bed that i just picked up as a project. the drivers door has been replaced with (i'm guessing) an earlier year. it has a metal interior panel whereas the passenger side has the plastic interior panel and plus the color matches the rest of the truck so i can safely assume its original...my question is.
i like the metal interior panel and im wondering if i can purchase earlier style metal interior panel and will it fit the 72 door?
2nd question is. i notice that in all the parts listings i see they note a different PN for the window regulator between 67-71 and 72....anybody know the differences in the doors? and whether i can retro fit a 1972 door to fit the 67-71 hardware?

thank you in advance

Regulator for 1972 is longer to pass through the thicker door panel. Don't know if metal door panel will fit but it may.

you will have to change the window regulator to an older one, and then I think you are good to go

That's it. You described the differences yourself in your post and we are just confirming. '72-only molded panels require '72-only door controls (longer). Everything 67-71 uses the same parts and just panel styling changed...on the vinyl versions. The metal panels are exactly the same 67-71 and so are the controls. You can put the early steel panel on your '72 door but the handle will sitting out from the panel.

Re: door difference in years

thank you all, that's pretty much what I was hoping. I need new regulators anyway since at some point in the past someone lost the handles and decided vice grips were a good idea. SMH

The 72 doors will have a screw on the inside just below the vent widow post. Others have stated the mechanical differences.
