Radiator opinion.

I just found that my 4 core radiator is leaking between the cores and we're leaving for Power Tour in a month. Soooooo, not taking any chances, I want to just get a good new one! So I have narrowed it down to 2 choices:

LMC 4 Core Radiator $289.95 + $20 for Oversized shipping
Classic Industries OER 4 Core Radiator $464.99

I personally am leaning towards the Classic Industries one, I have heard good things about their products and the OER products. Anyone have any experience with them? Like I said I don't want to have ANY issues on Power Tour, especially a coolant leak in the midwest in Summer!!!

Thanks guys!

Re: Radiator opinion.

I am leaning toward a ~450 dollar champion aluminium solution ( 2 core with 1 inch tubes ) with two electric fans.

http://shop.championcooling.com/1967...ch=chevy%20c10

That one you list there is rather spendy for just a radiator?

Re: Radiator opinion.

Check the part numbers but I bought a complete brass/copper 4 core from O'Rielys AP. Fit same as OE, but two issues, pricey and had to plug the auto transmission fittings.

The old Modine replacement part number is/was a 369

Re: Radiator opinion.

If they are both copper/brass radiators the difference is probably where they are made. If the OER is USA made I'd go with that. (It's easy for me to spend your money!)

I am looking for a 4 core radiator too. I saw one on Summit and wondering if it will fit right in without modifications. https://www.summitracing.com/parts/s...del/c20-pickup

Re: Radiator opinion.

Wound up getting the LMC one, I will let you guys know how it fits. My friend Rick has had good luck with them, and he builds trucks all the time. Wish me luck!

I would stay with brass and copper if I had the choice.

Man you are reading my mind! Too funny. I am looking at replacing my 4 core as well and been searching around. I found the OER from Classic Industries one but didn't like the price. I don't want an aluminum one but don't want plastic either. But I noticed today that Classic has 20% off if total is over $300. It ends tonight though. That was my clincher. I am buying one right now. Hope this helps!

I've got this radiator in my 72 and it has over 11k miles behind a ZZ4 with A/C running in HOT West Texas. Also, you want a quality 2 core with 1" cores, it's counter intuitive.

Re: Radiator opinion.

I bought a radiator from this site, after another member posted about it.

http://www.kksmotorsports.com/

It seems to fit fine but does ride a bit high, I will have to shim my upper retention brackets or make my own.

Eventually I want to get my original radiator re-cored.

I forget where I bought my 4 row brass radiator , was too many years ago...havent ran the truck til recently with new crate engine, anyway, I had to make 3/8" shims for my upper mounts, the radiator was a little too tall , they worked good

I bought one of them too in the fall, after getting 3 shipped to me all damaged up, I finally convinced them to give me money to have a radiator shop fix the best one out of the 3. So now I have 2 "spares".

Re: Radiator opinion.

Rock Auto had a 4 row brass and copper radiator on closeout last summer. Let me see if I can find the link.

I bought one for around $130.00 but it sat a bit high on the core support. One could fab up some upper brackets I am sure to hold it down.

Holy Crap! I found it. Give them a call, it may work for you.

Re: Radiator opinion.

Go to Pro Performance and get the Champion. They are Vendors here and might give you a discount. I bought mine from them and they have a great customer service and great pricing.

Re: Radiator opinion.

The only thing around here is the new style alum/plastic from napa. 2528 is the part number at 235.00. If you call around to a real radiator shop, you can still find the full brass units. They are however becoming scarce.

I'm with you, 4 core means nothing as far as cooling goes. It may even be a down fall, by the time the air gets to the 4th core it may be too hot to do any cooling. Two 1 inch cores are a lot better.

That appears to be an aluminum core with plastic tanks. They dont have brass for sale. I dont see this as a bad thing actually, that where technology is now and works well. Have any pics of the one you installed?

I gues a two core aluminum is better than the 4 core brass and copper huh?

Appearances can be deceiving. The one they sent me is definitely not aluminum and plastic.

I don't have it installed yet, I don't even have the core support back onto the truck.

Re: Radiator opinion.

I wanted to add that there's more to a quality radiator than simply how many horizontal rows it has. Vertical tube spacing and cooling fins per inch play a huge role on the radiator's ability to transfer heat. I had a 4 row, brass/copper radiator I purchased new several years ago and it finally let go. So, I took it back to the retailer since it carried a lifetime warranty and exchanged it for a new one. Well, the new one, even though it was the same part number, is an aluminum/plastic 2 row unit. I cringed at first, at the thought of going to a 2 row from an old traditional 4 row. But after looking over the aluminum rad, I realized the amount of vertical tubes is greater compared to my old 4 row, as the tubes are much closer together. In addition to that, the amount of fins per inch is significantly higher compared to the old 4 row. Additional cooling rows (top to bottom) and more cooling fins per inch of tube will all aid in heat transfer. The two row aluminum was nearly as thick as the old 4 row as well. Only a few miles on it so far, but I don't see any problem with it cooling my BBC.

When searching for my replacement brass/copper unit years back, all the new "cheaper" chain store 4 rows available at the time had the lower tube count and the lower fin count per inch. It was only if I took my old rad to my local rad repair guy to have the core replaced with a high efficiency brass/copper unit that I felt I could get a quality rad. The price at the time was nearly four times the price of a new, lifetime warranty unit avail from a local chain store, so I went that way.

Also, take a look at US radiator's website. They provide detail on the differences between the various cores available and the cooling ability of each.

Miles
