New '71 Owner

Had lunch with my cousin the other day. While visiting we went to the back yard of his house and started talking about his '71 C20. It was purchased new by our uncle and has always been in the family. The truck hadn't started in about two years and my cousin was planning to have it towed off. The short story is that he gave me the truck.

The following weekend a friend and I worked on the truck for about two hours, checked all the fluids, hit the stuck starter solenoid with a pipe a few times, shot some starting fluid into the carb, and the 350 fired right up! We had a flat tire fixed (the truck had new tires less than three years ago), and drove it up and down the driveway. The trans seems fine and the power brakes work.

This is a base model C20 with some rust, but because of the camper that was on it for most of its life the bed is cherry. I plan to do a rolling restoration on the truck and use it to haul a trials bike, tow a vintage race car, and haul things like a full sheet of plywood from the lumber yard.

I'll post a few pictures as the project progresses.

John
