Fuel Line Bending Tip

After collapsing my share of metal tubing over the years I came up with a shade tree solution that worked for me. I had a length of braided accelerator cable left over from an earlier job. I inserted the cable into the full length of the fuel line that I was bending. The bends came out perfect and the cable was easy to pull out after all the bends were made.

I know there are other tricks out there for bending fuel/brake lines, but I really like this one.

Nice, follows the same principle of mandrel bending. I was borne on a farm, and it serves the necessity of the mother!

X2. I have never had an issue with collapsing steel brake or fuel line when I use my tubing bender tool.

I use a tube bender that I bought from Summit Racing years ago. I have never been able to bend a very tight 90° without some form of tubing collapse. When using this method all of my bends stayed open and free flowing.

That must be a better version than the one I bought at O'Reallys. Mine is a real POS that will kink a line in a heartbeat, unless you fiddle with it a lot. I've had better luck using a couple of box end wrenches.

I have the same tool (linked by a member here) and after a certain angle, all bends are kinked. The accelerator cable idea is one I may copy, thanks!

I've bent tube by filling with water, freeze it and bend it.

I have a tubing bender made by Mac Tools. It is made out of a pretty tuff nylon material. Makes great bends with no kinks at all. Here is a 3/8" fuel line I bent up and had one bend well past 90 degrees.

Kind of a bad pic of the bender, but it's the only one I have on file here.

Good simple solution.

Couple of mine are using Ni-Copp line that is extremely easy to bend. And when working with steel, use of a torch to anneal the line to eliminate work hardening from the production process. Makes bending & flaring much easier. Not good for coated lines of course.

This is a great tip for someone with out a bender.

But bending tube is only as good as the bender you use.
Buy the best bender that you can afford.
(and flaring tool also)
