Removed fenders today and.....
First time I've done this. Great fenders and simple task.
I more or less expected more body shims. Only the bottom bolt on the RH fender had them. Two 1/16" & one 1/8". Really, the alignment for that fender was a disaster anyway. They didn't shim the cowl like they should, and the hood rubbed the fender. Apparently the 9/16" head bolts are either 1" or 1.1/8" long. The LH had the longer, the RH fender the shorter. Other than length they're the same bolt. The emblems on the LH fender had the rubber backed speed nuts. Meanwhile, the RH fender used some I don't know nuts (see picture). Were these factory? Other than that, anyone know what size nuts are used for the Deluxe, Custom 10 & engine emblems? Speak of emblems, can't say I'm disappointed in these at all. After the white paint from the "custom" paint job was removed anyway. It's hard to believe this stuff has been mounted near a half-century. The Deluxe emblems are everything I'd hoped for, chrome is "NOS" plus. The Custom 10's are nice, say great driver quality. Light even pitting. Doesn't matter, I have Custom 10 options.

Those are barrel clips , they work pretty good for installing emblems . mouldings when placement falls in an area where access is limited to use the regular speed nuts ,or when someone bolts on a fender and forgot to install the emblems or when you want to install emblems without removing the fender , Drill the correct size hole insert clip and press evenly until it's tight up against the fender and your done . |

If either was changed it would be the RH side. The fender was 1/5" above the cowl, and the cowl was shimmed with two washers . Busted the tip off the cowl bolt. That and as mentioned, scraped the hood, about 6" from rear. Not a body guy by any measure, but I'd say a fender to cowl shim(s) was in order.
