Seat belt ???

I need to replace the seat belts in my 77 Cheyenne. Mine are fading, and the plastic behind the seat is cracked.

Besides maybe a different looking latch (buckle) if I replace the entire assembly is there any difference between the 77 and the newer seatbelts that are available?

If you want to change out the complete setup (buckle, and harness) then you should not have any trouble. If you went with a newer 88+ model the buckles are completely different.

Another thing to think about, GM used quite a few different manufacturers/styles. Unfortunately, this wreaks total havoc in replacing seperate pieces of the same belt. Even though the hasp goes into the buckle and locks, it sometimes can come loose in an accident. Make sure you get both pieces of the belt from the same donor vehicle or manufacturer. We wouldn't want to lose a member of this site that way!

I'm still searching for a replacement belt for my 77.
Even a 78 belt won't work because the floor mount is in a differant location. It wiil stick out and not allow you to close the door. The dealers around here tell me I'm SOL. GM no longer stocks that part. I was looking at Julianos but the way our floor board seat rise is in the 77 the slope may cause a problem.
If you find something that works definately let me know.

It looks like you have done more research on than I have. I am just getting started. Mine look "ok", but they are a bit faded. I plan to bring everything in my interior up to new status, and the belts are on the list.

The plastic on my buckles are really dried out, and suck the life out of vinyl dye. The ribbed plastic supports that go on the buckle end are under the seat are cracking too.

I plan to contact Snake-oyl and see what they can do if we can't find OEM replacements.

This isn't "exactly" ours, but it's pretty close...

If you find a good replacement for the seat belts in our trucks please let me know. Especially the 3 point version. I've got red ones at the moment but when the truck will be rebuilt the new interior color will be grey. So I've got to replace the old ones. I've been searching the internet for quite a while but haven't found the belts I'm looking for.

I think, unless you get very, very, lucky and find someone on the web who has some NOS belts, you are SOL. GM don't even make them for my 85 anymore.

Aftermarket belts just flat out suck. They don't fit right, don't work right and look like shat. I tried them.

I wish anyone wanting to restore one of these trucks to like new status, the best of luck. It's going to be real tough finding some new belts for a 77.

As I said, Snake Oyl products seems to be the best chance so far. I haven't got a quote on getting mine done yet, but I'm sure they aren't cheap.
