3 Speed Column Shift Adjustment
Greetings! New here and working on a 70 c10 with column shift issues, and found the very helpful adjustment thread by Green Machine, however I am somewhat stuck (thread closed so starting new post).
I was able to follow and get all 3 bolts loose to adjust the cam bolt, however I can only get it to move half way counter clockwise (all the way clockwise), and i'm not seeing much change in lever space. I tried lubing it pretty liberally, and it moves smooth up until about the half way spot, then it just stops. Even tried tapping with a hammer... It slips out / jams out of gear (when going from 1st to second), so often now i'm tempted to convert to floor shift (but really like the column shift). Last edited by kenk; 06-25-2017 at 08:08 PM. |

Re: 3 Speed Column Shift Adjustment
dont convert it to a floor shifter. The column shifter works great. Yes it needs adjustment once in a while. I've owned my truck for 7 years now and it has not needed adjustment yet but perhaps soon.
keep it all lightly lubricated popping out of gear may be indication of a worn transmission and is no fault of the linkage. I'm not sure what all your referring to re cams and cam bolts but they are a good set up and was very durable under warrenty when new. I love mine and properly set up they are a wonder. I can shift my gears with my fingertip on the end of the shifter lever and without using the clutch pedal. very sweet. |

Re: 3 Speed Column Shift Adjustment
Always change the shift linkage bushings before any adjusting .

Re: 3 Speed Column Shift Adjustment
Wanted to clarify, the issue is that when I shift from 1st to second it slips past and ends up in no gear, beyond that everything is fine. I can get it back by coasting to the side of the road and pulling up the jammed linkage. The bushings seem fine, and per green machines post the gears line up fine. I can't seem to adjust the linkage tight enough to keep it from slipping past and popping into the stuck spot.

Re: 3 Speed Column Shift Adjustment
Green Machine's post pretty much covers it. Correctly adjusted and occasional attention and your 3OTT should shift like butter. Plus, you get to wow some old heads now and then, not to mention the theft deterence factor !!!
