73-87 Door Rain Shields

We drove across the desert over the weekend in 118* weather and I noticed every time we drove by a big rig hot air would rush in from the door handle.

Question is, were there factory rain shields installed that I'm missing to help keep moisture and hot air from infiltrating the cab through the door panel gaps? I don't see any for sale anywhere.

Ive never seen anything that was OEM for sale, but there other things that can be used. Like what N2TRUX used on his doors and everywhere else. If you go back a bit on his build thread, he added a link, on where to get this stuff from.

My 89 did have a plastic lining. When I reassembled the door parts, I used a thick plastic sheeting that I purchased @ my local Lowes. I slit it where necessary so things could pass through & used duct tape on the slices + outer perimeter.

I used a clear plastic shower curtain from Walmart. Cheap. Cut to fit and cut slits with knife for handles, etc. Attached with clear double-sided tape. Worked fine.

Nothing OEM; there was "rain paper" to keep water and dust out of the door itself but nothing to keep air from around the door handle .

As mentioned they didnt really offer much on the 73-87s so I used my late model trucks as an example. On my 84 I did the same as Bandit130 and found a cheap clear shower curtain. This adds some moisture and wind protection.

On my 85 Sierra "Scarlett" I decided to take it a step further and add some thermal and sound barrier as well. I bought a roll of thermal barrier that is foil on both sides and bubble pack in the middle. Its cheap and light weight and seals easily with duct tape. With the Silent Coat sound deadner inside the door, this was a nice additional layer of protection.

Yes the rain paper is what I was thinking of. Interesting that no one sells those as a direct fit option. I think I'll do as others and use some Mylar type material.
