The other tranny line question got me thinking. Let's say if you wanted to take the steel lines out and replace them back with new steel.Nowyou could cut the line close to the flare nut to have room to work. Then couldn't you just take out the larger nut there the flare nut goes into? I'm thinking this is just a 1/2"x1/4" bushing with a built up shoulder. Am I right on this? I know when Mike was redoing his lines he had to redo some stuff but I was curious to see if this would be easier than getting a crow foot socket or a flare wrench in thereif already replacing the lines?

im confused? are u talking about takeing out the nut that the flarenut screws into? if you are i dont know if that will come out. if it does yea u could cut it and get at it from that way but you'd still be in the same bout with the flare nut wrench tightening it up to the trans cause i dont think the nut and flare nut tightened up will turn for u to install it back on the trans. and i would highly recomend at least getting a flare nut wrench that not that expensive, u wouldnt and to collapse your new line or round off the nut.

Are you asking about the brass (I think...) piece that screws into the transmission that the fitting on the line screws into? If so, yes, it can be unscrewed from the transmissin if you cut the steel line off.

When I pulled my transmission the brass piece was looser than the fitting on the line. I put the flare nut wrench on the fitting, turned it, and twisted the line instead of removing the fitting from the brass piece. It ruined the line, so I just twisted the end off the line and removed the brass piece with the fitting and the twisted off line still screwed into it. I just unscrewed the fitting on the broken line from the brass piece in my vise.

This is hard to describe because I want to call everything a fitting. I also seem to be unable to spell today...

Ya'll got it right. The steel I have now on there is preety much saudered on the flare nut and won't budge. I'm going to cut and redo it all so I thought I could take that brass fitting out. I was just wanting to make sure before getting to far along. Looks like my next two days off will be rerouting the lines then. I'll install the bushings in then intstall the lines. Shouldn't be too hard

why not just leave the brass fitting in the tranny and use 1/2" - 20 inverted flare tube nuts? If you take out the brass fitting, how are you planning on tightening the cooler line in the tranny? This is why the brass fittings are in there in the first place

unless he was planning on taking out the brass fittings just as a removal step then install the brass fittings then install the new line into it:p

That is what I did. It was easy to get the fitting out of thebrass part while the pieces were in my vice.
