65 hood wont stay up - need shorter springs?
Just got my 1965 C10 back from paint and we find that the hood will not stay up. We used the original springs on the hinges and suspected they lost their tension, so I ordered a new set from LMC. The LMC springs are about 1/2" longer and, upon installation, these too will not hold the hood up.
Is there a source for 1) shorter hinge springs or 2) a company that can shorten these springs and bend them properly for installation? Thanks Mark |

Did you pivot the brackets/hinges? It can be adjusted up and down to even the load of the hood and provide a little more tension.

Yes, I did pivot them. The adjustments allow the hood to move a bit forward or backward for gap adjustment. This has nothing to do with the ability of the spring to hold up the hood.

the first set i bought would not hold up my 61 hood. (don't remember the seller.) I bought another set from Brothers and they work fine. The first one were bought about 4+ yrs ago. the new ones probably 2yrs ago.

I had the same issue and after the second set wouldn't hold the hood up I added universal springs inside the stock springs and no more sag....simple and available at a local hardware store....They have strong resemblance to the seat adjuster spring but only 7" from hook to hook

I originally ordered my springs from LMC truck. I then ordered from Brothers Trucks and these springs were about 1" shorter - worked great.
