Old Man Truck - 1967 C20

Out with old and in with the....the older. I Recently let my 1969 k2500 go and felt relieved for about a day because it had some pedigree issues that always bothered my as I continued to put money into it. About a day later I started to instantly regret letting it go so I went on a semi frantic search for a replacement. Stock 67-72 3/4 ton 4x4's will probably always be my favorite pick up and one day I hope I can come across another. However, I decided to go polar opposites and pick up this 1967 LWB inline 6 3OTT that I am already enjoying.

First order of business is a good service followed by a thorough cleaning. Other than that not much else planned except to drive it an enjoy it. Suggestions, input, comments, ideas, are all welcome.

Every once in a while I consider selling my 70 Longhorn. Each time this thought crosses my mind I drift back to when I sold my mint 69 SS 396 Chevelle about 10 yrs. ago. I had owned it for quite a few yrs. and I thought I was ready for something else. Even worse I thought I'd be able to replace it. The moment I saw its new owner driving down the road with it I immediately regretted my decision. Luckily you found something very nice to help ease the pain... Here in RUSTY CT. it is very hard to find a reasonably priced classic that isn't a Bondo Buggy... Lots of luck with the new truck and I agree, original hub caps will really set it off.

Nice truck....agree with original wheel caps and tailgate color. You could do a couple thing's on the interior to keep it original. The Arm rest,Choke knob,Ciggerette lighter. those little things sure make a big difference.

Amazed that the seat is intact, and it appears to be rust free.

If it was mine... I'd convert it to 1/2 ton. Front disc brakes. Rear disc is nice, but drums on front only is all you need, my opinion...

I have no use for 6 bangers, other than the big splash they make falling off the river bridge....Power steering is a must...406 small block, no need to do the LS deal.

Lets just start out by saying "I hate you California guys and your clean trucks!" JK, here in Michigan, local trucks are never that clean. Wow, nice truck and congratulations! Absolutely love that rig.

Looks like a 292. SPID says L25 292 CU IN L6 ENG. Lifter covers are 6'' tall. Fuel pump is centered, not forward.

Nice truck. Very straight. We don't see a lot of unmolested '67s like that.

I agree with most all comments, this is a very clean and solid CA truck! The different tailgate, hooks on bed, and aux gas tank switch are all tell tale signs this truck hauled a camper earlier in its life. The later model wheels are a common find on 3/4 tons of this vintage, unfortunately, it takes away from the original character of vehicle, because you can't run original hubcaps ( see photo) with out clips. There are ways to add clips to newer wheels if you don't plan on original wheels. Chevy 3 speeds came in 2 varieties, full synchro or non synchro in '67. I would upgrage to a full if yours is a non. Also, your 4.56 rear axle pumpkin can be swapped for a 4.11 very simply without any modifications to drivetrain or suspension. Last note, always run tallest and narrowest tire available on lower geared non power steering vehicles.

Agree. Whats the deal with the 67 hub caps, are they the clip on style vs. the nub style? I have a freshly powder coated set of econoline 4 nub steelies that I was going to use for my K truck that I wouldnt mind putting on this one or do I need a specific style of wheel to accept the clips when I finally find a set of 67 caps.

Runs good. Fires right up, clutch feels well, tranny feels tight, engine is a little noisy sounding in the top end...im guessing shes a little tired.

Haha I hear ya, but I like the 6 for what I do (running around town). A ton of trucks out there already with whatever flavor of V8 you want. One of my favorite parts about the truck is the column shift, so I have no intention of putting to much HP in front of the 3 speed. If I can acquire another one someday it will be a K series with some form of V8...but probably a gen. 1 sbc.

Whats the incentive to going 1/2 ton? I plan to keep steel wheels so wheel choices dont bother me with the 8 lug. maybe a disk front end down the road but I would probably still keep it all 3/4 ton. The only benefit I see is a wider variety of rear end replacements if you are looking to change up your ratio?

Thats my plan. CLR, wet sand, cut and buff and see where that goes. Its over 100 deg. outside right now though so it will be 1 panel at a time. slowly.

68orange, what oil do you run in your 292's? I'm guessing by your signature you know a thing or two about these 6's. Seems to be a fairly controversial topic from the research ive done.

Wasnt sure what gearing I have on this one, but dang 4.56's! I haven't had it at a good cruising speed for long because the current tires are shot on it. Looks like you can do a dana 60 swap with 3.54's which would probably be about right for me....eventually.

Yup, has all the evidence it used to be a camper hauler. The aux. tank is still there hidden up under the passenger side bedside and still functional. Purchased it from a gal who bought it from an "older gentleman" and thats about all I know about it.

So the tires are shot and ill replacing them soon. This begs the question of if I want to make any changes to tire size and stance. I don't mind lowered trucks, but lowered long beds aren't my thing. I've seen a couple threads of guys who had c20s and they put 1ton springs in the front to level them out a bit and stuffed some tall tires under them that looked pretty good in my opinion. these trucks were all 69 and up though so I'm not sure how that would look on a slant nose.

It has a bit of a rake to it right now which I typically don't like any rake to trucks but I don't mind it on this one. Right now I am leaning toward just leaving it as is. what do you think?

I feel for you guys man. It's frustrating trying to find something decent out here that someone doesn't think is worth its weight in gold. I could only imagine what it is like in your part of the country.
