Re: Stainless bolts for Front sheet metal

For some customer projects that specify stainless fasteners, I have used Totally Stainless in the past for their kits to make things a little easier for me (less trips to the hardware store). I just have to remember to have anti-seize compound on hand.

Re: Stainless bolts for Front sheet metal

I also use McMaster-Carr, online catalog, fast shipping, I plan on doing my bolts as stainless allen button head bolts and using their thin clear nylon (I believe) washers so they don't mar the paint when I install them. Of course that's down the road yet. There's plenty more I need to do before I get to that point.

Re: Stainless bolts for Front sheet metal

A tad long but they're stainless - http://www.ebay.com/itm/1964-1973-Mu...-/390662394887
Now the only place I have found new large flange bolts is - http://www.ebay.com/itm/50-5-16-18x3...%257Ciid%253A1
But I can't seem to find them anywhere in stainless.

Re: Stainless bolts for Front sheet metal

I got lucky once. Lowes was having a clearance on stuff like this in the contractor packs so I bought a bunch somewhere in the neighborhood of $20. Still have some left over.

Ah. Yep, those appear to only be available in zinc-plated: https://www.mcmaster.com/#94386a102/=195kgv6

Re: Stainless bolts for Front sheet metal

I got these from Brothers, pretty nice. Used them on most of the front of the truck.
http://www.brotherstrucks.com/47-66-...tinfo/FSMB66S/

Or

http://www.ebay.com/itm/5-16-18-x-3-...5YypIy&vxp=mtr

For the tops of the fenders and other panels under the hood, I used bolts like these as to not scrape the paint off.

Re: Stainless bolts for Front sheet metal

Ecklers has a stainless bolt kit, every bolt for cab and front end. Everything was labeled and bagged, I was very satisfied.

Re: Stainless bolts for Front sheet metal

Totally Stainless appears to sell 304 vs 316, which has better corrosion resistance. Anyone know where to get a kit in 316?

Nice.
You know my body/paint owner says the body bolts I'm using are stainless. They're not.
Post #7 above from ebay. I guess they look pretty good.
When I get the truck back from him I will be using a model (as in plastic model) paint brush and this on every bolt. https://www.everbritecoatings.com/stainless_steel.html

Can you share that order for the qty and sizes? I didn't know about stringer washers, they look pretty nice!

Is that just a clear coat? I've painted over my grade 5/8 bolts but like the look of them unpainted, wish I had cleared them.

Yes it is, they claim you can use it on your stainless bar-b-Que to keep it nice. So it should keep them looking great for a long time. Please no jokes.
