Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
Opinions needed! I've got a couple of SWB trucks awaiting restoration and just curious to see which one you guys think would be more desirable / valuable.

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
Ooooh, tough call. 402 w/posi and tilt Cheyenne vs Bucket Super.... I'd have to go with bucket Super also, but only by a hair - the 402 in a swb is a very desirable combo, even if "just" a Cheyenne. If the buckets and 402 were reversed, I'd say the Super 402 would be a slam dunk. But it's not the case, and this is a very close call indeed! Also, despite the deluxe two tone popularity, I think the solid med olive is probably gonna make that Cheyenne very unique. That's a REALLY tough call. Wish I had this problem! You can't go wrong. I say you have three choices:
a) pull the 402 and put it in the Super (just kidding) b) pull the buckets, recover, and put em in the Cheyenne (just kidding) c) send them both to me, I'll figure something out (not kidding) |

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
They're both, money in the bank.
I think The super would bring more money restored (it's a super!) Blue/white with buckets is a more desirable combo Although Solid green would be really cool (mostly to us truck guys) It wouldn't be as desired the the general truck buyer Two, very nice trucks👍👍 |

The big block truck for sure. If this is the one you had at the Ardmore show. This will make someones dream truck.I know I have dreamed about it myself.

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
In my book a factory short bed, big block truck would be the dream truck hands down. Color not important. I wish I had your dilemma.

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
Thanks for the input so far. I've got some NOS parts and cool dealer accessories to put on one of them, just trying to decide which one. I've gone over this a thousand times in my head - BB trumps SB, but Super trumps Cheyenne. Good 2 tone color is better than solid green, but solid green also has tilt and posi. As rare as SWB big block trucks are, I think there were fewer bucket seat Supers built.

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
I wouldn't fix either one, but sell both to me. Lol. I'd probably do the the first one. Cheyenne super with blue and white paint is a great combo.

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
I see no difference in value on two well optioned shortbeds. I mean really, does a couple pieces of woodgrain on the dash make that much difference? Personally, after seeking and owning high optioned trucks and owning top of the line trucks, for me I think a Custom big block bucket seat truck with all the options is cooler than either...and more rare. I'm into odd combos as much as all the bells and whistles. Late models seem to be more loaded than anything with limited choices in configuring your own truck as you please. Back then if a guy didn't want carpet in his truck he could load up a lesser trim level which is one thing so cool about these trucks. But all this is just me. Like I started off with, I don't believe one would bring more than the other to the general public.

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
Do you think this will be your only restoration of a truck of this generation? Why not pick one and do it now and stash the other away for a future project? That's what I'd do unless cash and storage were a problem.
Tough decision if only one is in your future! Both sound like great trucks. How are the bodies? I'd probably do the one that needs the least body work. If all else is equal, I would consider the approach Jocko jokingly suggested in post 3 (these are not Corvettes or classic Camaros, Chevelles, etc.). |

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
I have a soft spot for swb big blocks, but I think you'll get more interest and turn way more heads with the super.

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
I would have to agree with that comment Chevyland - the fully optioned, real deal Cheyenne Supers, to include swb big blocks and loaded K's are climbing rapidly in value while all the muscle and pony cars have flattened out a bit, after a precipitous drop post-muscle car bubble. They ARE still worth more than the trucks at the moment, but the gap is indeed closing. I'd say either one of the JQ's swb's would garner more than a small block base Camaro, maybe even more than an SS or RS, depends on the auction crowd. I know which one I'd rather have!
It's funny - while I do like woodgrain Super interiors better (Mr. Tim ), all things being equal - my main "complaint" with the Cheyenne I had wasn't the lack of dash woodgrain, but rather the vinyl standard seat. Lived in some hot places, burned the crap out of my legs, wanted to get away from vinyl - I actually prefer the Custom Deluxe cloth to Cheyenne vinyl. And being the purist that I am, ha, I couldn't bring myself to put a Super cloth seat cover on a Cheyenne... Anyway, for SOME reason, I seem to be able to live with the burning vinyl when it comes to buckets. Makes no sense, I know... |

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
Josh, I would say most would flock to the color combo of the blue and white, but I think the Cheyenne big block swb appeals more to the truck crowd here. I have been seeing a lot of big block clones lately. I always have this argument when talking swb Cheyenne Super big blocks or Cheyenne Super swb 4x4's. Trevor

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
Yes, I realize I'm quoting myself... but, just to be clear, the above statement is in answer to your original question - which is more desirable/valuable. As for which one I'd choose personally - the med olive Cheyenne all day long.

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
SWB BB hands down, particularly with a SPID that loaded up. It is one of the Holy Grails of our collecting world. I don't think my informal sighting count of them, on this forum or elsewhere, has reached 5 yet.

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
I stay with the BB decision, but just looking, it seems that a solid olive truck is pretty rare as well. I am like you, I like the option list too.

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
I think solid paint is cool on each trim level. Most are deluxe 2-tone because both are deluxe trucks. That's what people wanted back then. Same as most having all the other deluxe options. One way to look at is the bucket seat Super needs nothing added to be desirable. I say solid paint trumps 2-tone based on less out there, especially w/402. It puts it as more performance based than comfort. So maybe it depends on what added options/accys you have to add and which vibe they enhance. I know it's not a matter of doing one or the other because I figure you'll do both at some point. All this said and I'm probably wasting my breath knowing how you and that BLUE!

Re: Cheyenne vs. Cheyenne Super value
Supers are nice, but so are Cheyennes. It more or less comes down to a BBC Vs buckets. It's a tough call, but I think I'd run with the BBC.
If you're planning to maintain the factory paint, you might choose your favorite color and run with it.
