650-1000hp goals? Need help

I have a 1972 suburban that I would like to build an engine that puts out 650-1000hp that I can daily drive. The issue I'm having is what motor I want/should build. I have a 4 sbc, 1 bbc mark lV, a bbc gen 5 long block and a bbc gen 6 with a bad block. And if I should keep it N/A or turbo it.

What is everyone's opinions?

650 is one thing and a 1000 is another thing. Just the racer in me but for that level I would be looking at an aftermarket block along with the rest. You need to decide early on boost or NA. Everything gets built around that choice. Boosted will get you there with less cubic inches. Then there is everything that goes with it, trans, drive line, chassis and brakes.

Yes thet are a very big difference, and I'm not sure yet. I want to know what everyone is running in that range and on the street everyday. I know being bossed or not makes a huge difference also. Everything else as far as the rest of the vehicle I'm not worried about right now.

I know an aftermarket block is the way to go in the long run but I want to start with what I already have

@ 650, small turbo LS motor, do it cheap and beat it like a cheap wh*re.

@1k then its a budget question. We do LS stuff north of 1k all the time, but depending what you wanna do with it, it might not be the best option. If you want the "easy" 1k with room to build and can cut the check, then its the aftermarket bbc discussion; big cubes etc, big heads, big fuel. We live in a world where Sonny Leonard will sell you a 700+ci motor

Pick a goal, plan carefully and work out a budget. Build the best you can with what you have to spend.

Heres a big block for ya,, on EACH SIDE,, 904 cu in. This ones in the 3000+HP range in a D bar D's nitrous Promod but point is,,, you can make just about anything these days if you have the $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$


BR3 is the man,, Turbo LS is where I'd go too. My son is building 58 COE with a 415 C. In. LSx with a single 85mm turbo. Motor plan should have it around 650-700 on pump gas with streetable boost, and tickle 1000 with C-14. He's $12k into this motor in parts and pieces and it's not anywhere close to final assembly / plumbing / wireing if the motor yet.

^^if he's running C-fuel for fun, have him try out Q-16. That stuff is WOW for race fuel. Chemically oxygenated fuel ftw.

I think he will stick with C-14 because it's the fuel i run in the Nova. (too easy access!!! LOL) I tried the -Q but just couldn't get the hang of the tuneup. We dyno tuned my motor on the engine dyno w/ C-14 so it it's easy to tweek for the air. But I just couldn't get enough Q fuel in it to make the motor happy. I'm sure he will have a MUCH easier time with the LS-

I have a 2005 GMC RCSB with a 4.8 as a daily driver . I have been looking at a 70-76 mm single turbo set up at about 6 psi on 87 octane . I have been told I can make 550 to the ground and still get gas mileage and pull a boat or utility trailer like stock.

Nothing boosted on 87 octane will live unless your running methanol on top of it. ESPECIALLY for towing.

So ford ecoboost trucks fail when towing ? Weird way of looking at things . you can make power with a low boost and the long block doesn't even know there is a turbo until you force boost . Oh .... and my low boost Ford has 302K on it .

An Ecoboost F150 is not a boosted LS motor. Running an intake and port design, a fueling system, and an ECM all designed to operate an EPA-compliant boosted engine will get you that.... but a boosted 4.8 has NONE of that. And honestly, every ecoboost F150 we've ever brought in benefited from a 91 octane tune. More power, more boost on safer fueling margins, tighter fuel trims in general, lower charge temps, and overall reduced kr and burst knock on logs across the board when towing.

Can you make a truck run on it? Sure, its fuel and its a motor. But you will either end up running it rich as hell to keep knock in check under boost, or end up keeping your boost at almost-not-worth-it levels. If you want to run methanol or something to keep it in check, great. Heck, you can probably go no-IC and JUST run methanol if your really content on ultra low boost. At least that buffers your Kr resistance.

760whp on e85 here. I put on over 4000 miles last year, 1300 of it on race week, running 9s, and averaging 12mpg over the whole week.

very mild cam, forged piston and rod 6.0, billet 80mm turbo. very fun.

but yes, 650 and 1000 whp is very different. the average Joe would brown their shorts with 450whp. Things can get out of hand very quick playing around on the street.

I'm a bit late to the party but am making 590 hp, NA on 87 octane. 6.0 based stroker LS, all good parts and a really mild cam. Could easily make a lot more power but figured there was no way I could use it in a mostly stock suspension truck anyway.
