If I were a betting man, I'd say it goes for $585. I think you'd be pretty hard pressed to find someone willing to put up a bid for $600 on that gate. Wonder what reserve was?

Thumbs down

Ahh.... Manes Truck parts..... this guy's shop is about 5 minutes from my house. That's a lot of money for what might be a NOS gate.

Holy snikies.... That's a ton for a tailgate, but I guess if you got to have it you got to have it. That would buy about two sets of those tow hooks that pop up from time to time.

My point exactly. I gave this particular person a good chunk of change for a "very nice" bed and it ended up being full of filler.

Who whats to place bets that the HIGH BIDDER backs out? Well after checking out what else they have bought, that may not be a good bet... They have paid high prices for other items as well.

OEM GM 67-72 Chevy Truck/Blazer NOS TAILGATE

Quote:
You are bidding on what was an NOS Chevrolet Tailgate manufactured by General Motors. The guy purchased this Brand New GM Gate, installed all the hardware including the Handle, painted it a Meduim Blue, even put on the Upper & Lower Trim. He ran it on his truck for Approx 6 months before it took it off for good. The Tailgate is in EXCELLENT Condition but we are selling it "as is" for it is 6 months used. As far as we can see there are NO Dents nor Dings on the Gate.
I'd back out.

I have seen this gate in person and it is VERY nice. I also saw the truck it came off of, a fresh restored stock truck. The guy that bought it wanted to make it custom and put a louvered tailgate on it.

Let's see if I understand this---the tailgate was NOS---weren't they all at one point? Repainted, trim added with mounting hardware, etc. and lightly used.
So, if you have a original tailgate (which there are thousands of perfect originals out there), strip/media blast it to perfection, then prime and paint, who can tell if from what is being advertised here? Interesting concept, no?
"Originally a take off, NOS, tailgate. Repainted and lightly used. Mint-ish like qualities----real GM stock!!"yada, yada, yada!!!!

I hear you Slammed 67, i bought a pair of bedsides from him that were supposed to be "perfect" only to find filler in the lower back passenger side. I called him on it, and he said that there were no returns or warranty's on used merchandise. What an Asshole.

Good luck guys

David

David, ARE YOU KIDDING ME???????????

Yeah, I haven't given him a dime since then. It's unfortunate since his shop is about 5 minutes from my house. I'd rather buy parts from GMC Paul in INDIANA and wait on shipping than drive 5 minutes to Manes Truck Parts. Some guys only care about the $$$$$, not the customer.

After I told him what i found under the primer (his buddy did the body work), he offered to sell me some repro sides at a small discount! What a guy!

That does look like a NOS gate because I can see the spot welds for abrace in the middle of the gate . If you look at the new GM gate there is a brace in the middle of the gate on the inside. The aftermarket gates do not have this brace. I know because I bought a repo and I found a real N.O.S gate complete with the sticker under the tailgate handle hole. I paid 525 Cdn. Totally worth it. I would back out of buying anything off of Ebay unless you like to take chances.

I'll admit paying $585 for it is outrageous, but I most certainly do not agree with backing out of a Ebay commitment (or any other offer)--your bid is supposed to thought out BEFORE you bid! What happened to honoring your word?

smitty62, I agree with you 100%. I personally would never bid on something like that gate in the first place. In my opinion that gate is not NOS. It is a very nice USED gate. That'd be like me finding a rust free/dent free fender, having it media balsted, painted up all pretty, and selling it as NOS. Just seems like false advertising to me. Unfortunately, the high bidder doesn't know the sellers reputation so he has no reason to be worried. It is possible to retract a bid BEFORE the auction ends under certain circumstances. This particular bid doesn't fit those circumstances unless he meant to really bid $58.50 instead of $585.00, but I doubt that was the case However, it's also possible to contact the seller BEFORE the auction ends and have a bid cancelled (if he/she will allow it).

72MARIO My OEM gate has those spot welds too, but it's not NOS. It is a GM gate, but there is no way to tell (now) that it is really NOS since it's been painted.

What if your truck is painted that medium blue. That is worth something not to have to go back and repaint it...Still it being at $585....
