Anybody tried this?

Toying with the idea of installing one of the newer style full replacement bumper and grill guard onto a 84 Squarebody Chevy.

I realize bumper contour won't mate. I'll likely push the assembly out a little and use diamondplate to cover the gap. I also realize I will be fabricating mounts.

The question becomes: Which bumper (still in production) has the best chance of fitting the closest Outside measurement of truck? Contour of front end. Etc.

06 GM?
91 Dodge?
Other year of any American Made truck?

Thoughts?

If you have a local 4wd and fabricating shop near you, you could have them build one for you. Some have their own designs that they will then make to mount on your specific vehicle. Other places will let you design one, well kind of, like winch mount bumper with a grill guard and integrated lights, ect. Most will powder coat them too.

Or if you or a buddy can build and weld, you can fabricate your own. I've spent about 10 years in the Jeep crowd, and the sky is the limit for what you can build for your bumpers and stuff.

I agree..I'd just fab one up to fit the truck...but then I like building stuff...look at different designs..pick out one you like...build to fit..I started to do that on my 81 c30 to add a winch..but my factory bumper is in perfect shape...I may do it some day anyway..

The thing is, in my neck of the woods, there are used full replacements laying around everywhere that can be bought for less than I could buy the metal to build one.

That is why I was looking to modify one to fit, and looking for the closest match.

I would think the 1991 Dodge 1st gen square body truck would be the closest.

You're missing the point. I'm trying not to spend $1,750. I can buy used replacements for $200-350. Trying to make one of those fit. I can handle the fabrication of mounts, just wondering which one would fit the body closest.

Some pics of the trucks that have the bumpers you're considering might help. I know the idea is to see if people can think other years/makes that would work but a visual might help get it started.
