Vintage Air heater

The weather is getting cold so I had my heater running the other day and all seemed fine. When I got back and turned the ignition off the heater fan kept going. I wired the heater the way Vintage Air showed in their manual, which was to hard wire the heater, but I decided this wasn't going to work. I had plenty of Bosch relays from another project and wired one in. The relay is controlled by the ignition and now shuts down the heater. It is alot better to turn off the key and not have to shut down the heater, at least to me it is. Here is the diagram I pulled off the internet and a few pictures of the relay mounted on the firewall.

What were they thinking !
Why would they want you to have to shut down the heater separately ?

I installed a VA mini system recently and it has a wire with a CB for the battery and an ignition wire also, might be a later change but mine was made to turn off with the key.

I put a VA system in my Corvette and I don't remember having to use a relay. VA didn't have a system made for the 1977 Corvette, so there were a few "other" problems with the installation. They had to send me another circuit board to get the controls to work, which was a study in frustration, and I also ended up hard wiring the lights because they never did work proper wired into the VA system.

I actually debated back and forth on buying the heater from VA because of all the problems I had, and I also didn't install an air conditioning unit in the truck because of all the problems I had with the Corvette install.

wow, my experience was the exact opposite. everything wired up correctly and works right on my install. sorry to hear of your troubles!
