question about my 1962 ramp truck wheels

At some point the previous owner swapped the rear end out for a newer and it now has 16" rear wheels. I'm not sure what size came original but I think they were larger diameter, I'm assuming this one is a dana from a 70's-80's truck.

Is there a larger truck wheel that has the same bolt pattern for this rear end?

yes being lug on the front this truck most likely had an eaton h110 which only came with either a 6.17 or a 5.43 gear set so its logical to see why it was swapped. if the fronts are 19.5 then that's what the rear had or 18 inch tube wheels. but you can get 19.5 tubeless 8x6.5 to go on the rear and 10 lugs that you only use 5 for the front.

I think the front has a newer C30 x member and ought to be 8x6.5 BP
Which 19.5x6 are available and the 8r19.5 is available last I looked.

I bought a donor 1984 1 ton and i'm going to use the front brakes and suspension along with hydroboost and most likely the 454 and TH400.

It has 19's on the front now and I want to keep it looking old style so when I swap the front out I wonder how hard it is to find affordable bigger front and back wheels.
Is there a certain year of truck that the big wheels came on?

It looks tight around the rear tire to the fender but I think a bigger wheel could fit.

I should look for a salvage yard that specializes in motor homes and lunch trucks.

if its a wide drw axle its prob the dana 70hd . this would be from a pickup with the box and fiberglass flares on the outside.

if its the narrow axle then its prob a 14ff rear . these come from cab & chassis trucks like flatbeds / dumps / that one you have in the last pic with a box on the back .

19.5 steel rims are all over on ebay used . frito lay chip trucks / bread trucks / service trucks / motor homes some times all got them .

i love the look of 19.5 on a correct build to keep it old school but new school .

How can i tell if i have the dana 70hd or the 14ff rear? Length measurement? Which is the strongest rear end?

Figured, those where 1st ones I found.
But as said ebay is an option but crazy shipping on steel wheels.

But I do agree some 19.5x6 with 8r19.5 have a period look. And being truck tire will carry significantlymore weight

Not sure, just thinking out-loud here.
Plus aren't the 19.5's mostly lug pilot and the newer trucks mostly hub pilot? You'd have to check the center bore.

The set I posted from ebay should be a direct swap for the current 16's if memory serves.

Correct, pre 71 wheels had the smaller holes, post '71 wheels had the larger holes. This was due to the disc brakes in '71. The 19.5" tubeless tire is approx. the same diameter of the original 18" tube type tire that was on this '62 C 40 originally.

I agree, the most logical reason why the older low geared 10 lug rear end disappeared. Interesting to find out whats in there now, 4.10? 4.56?
