Seat belts

I have a 1972 Cheyenne short bed,there are no seat belts in it. Did they come with seat belts in them? It has two threaded holes one on each side of the rear window. I think they were required in pickup trucks sometime in 1971. Is so were they lap belts (2pt) or were they the lap and shoulder (3pt)????

Should have come with lap belts, three across (driver, right side passenger, and center passenger).

Like Stocker said and shoulder belts were optional. Very hard to find the shoulder belts. I put all new belts in my truck, three across with shoulder belt option on the sides. Around 300 bucks if I remember correctly. Money well spent, all brand new and much safer when Im hauling the grand kids around with me.

I have a 1970 so I have no idea on the 1972's - I just put in an aftermarket shoulder belt from I think Summit on mine.

The bolt that fits into the threads on each side of the rear window are 7/16-20 TPI x 1" as shown in the manual diagram - however those bolts are special - the shoulder vs threaded profile and thickness of the hex head of the bolt is specific.

You won't find a bolt like that at Ace Hardware - although maybe at the Autozone "Help" section - (but probably not there either). I personally don't recommend this but I did just use a 7/16-20 regular Grade 8 bolt to install mine but if I ever get in a crash my skull will probably get caved in by the protruding head of that bolt sticking out 3/8ths from where it attaches the shoulder belt to the upper cab.

All 67-72s came with lap belts, with center belt being included in the upper trim levels and shoulder belts optional. I don't care for the OEM shoulder belt arrangement, so I'm getting new 3 pts with aircraft style buckles, much like '67 style. Seat belts are like tires and batteries, function over original. If my truck was for show I'd be concerned about 100% original seat belts.
This is what I've come around to. Actually, at this point I am still running original lap belts, but have come to realize I'm foolish to not be running and wearing 3 pts. Lap belts can hurt you as much as help you. That's why an improvement became mandatory. I seldom ever wear my lap belts and always wear my shoulder belts

I also seldom wear the lap belt in my 69 C 10 , but always wear my shoulder belt in our newer vehicles . I do know that my truck came with only two sets of seat belts . It's also has few options .

First thing I did was get shoulder belts. A lit pricey, but I think it was worth it. I got the kit that bolted right in. It had all the hardware. Just remove the old and bolt in. As I daily my truck it is nice to know the inertia reel seat belts work.

Same here, bough my 3-point harnesses from MCB Matt locally on the board. They really are just bolt in and offer much better safety over just the lap belts.
