What did you find for your truck and you said WOW
For me it had to me the "Take Off" bed and tailgate that the body shop had taken off back about 71-72... Curt converted a GMC from a Long Bed to a stake bed and had the bed in storage for over 30years. To me it was a WOW moment.
Whats yours...

Two build sheets under my seat. One from a different truck whose owner is probably still looking for it.

Re: What did you find for your truck and you said WOW
Two WOW moments come to mind. Finding a set of 69-72 tow hooks for $20 at a swap meet about 10 years ago and finding a working factory tach at our local salvage yard, pulling it my self for $15. The tach was years ago before that. I wasn't even close to restoring my rusted out, beat up 4x4, LOL. I was still beating on it then, LOL. But it was a 67-72 4x4 and had my heart set on one.

Re: What did you find for your truck and you said WOW
20 years ago, I found a complete Tach dash, for $20, and it worked fine until just recently, so I figure I costed me $1 per year.
I also found a set of Blazer Buckets for $20, and reworked/recovered them (costed $600), and still have them in my truck. |

Re: What did you find for your truck and you said WOW
Not really a find, but I bought my 68 stepside in May 2000 from an AL used car dealer selling it at the NSRA South in Knoxville, TN. He gave me a story about it being owned by an old man, who bought it new, kept it till he passed, then when his son inherited it, traded for a new Ford truck(his loss, my gain, right?). I wasn't that concerned with the history as the truck was nice enough regardless. It had a recent repaint, but otherwise still original.
About a year or so later, I was at a show when a guy walks up, looks the whole truck over, then asks where I bought it. Then asks who I bought it from, which I couldn't remember the exact name of the dealer, so he rattled off a few names and one sounded familiar with the dealer tag that it had when I bought it. Then he asked what the story behind it was. When I told him the story they told me, he confirmed he was the salesman at the Ford dealership that took it in on trade. He told me how he knew the truck because when he was young, his school bus used to drive by the house in downtown Gadsden. He confirmed that it always had a camper top(bed topper) and always sat under a carport. The dealership he worked at had to wholesale it locally, and it had swapped around several dealerships for about 3 years. He said the original paint on the truck wasn't bad, but he had heard that one of the used lots finally had it repainted and finally sold it. He had always wondered about it and was happy to see it again. I was able to meet with him at the rod run for a couple years, then he suddenly quit coming and I haven't seen or talked to him since. I wonder what he'd say if he saw the truck, now! Anyway, I always thought it was cool to get a confirmation of history on my truck.

Re: What did you find for your truck and you said WOW
I am right there with you Grumpy, I found a great set of 68 steel grill hoops at a swap for $20. I am going to have them and a set of head light trim chrome plated for my truck. also picked up a 67-68 grill with a good set of driver aluminum hoops for $65 at a swap meet. I love tinkering with these old trucks.

Re: What did you find for your truck and you said WOW
I found what I thought might be a factory GM am-fm radio for my truck at a swap meet....but I was wrong.
The radio was in the bottom of a box of other stuff and at the time it was worth the chance for $5.00....so I bought it. However....it turned out it did work and this was a factory 'stereo' am/fm for the 1969/70 Chevelles, Camaro's etc.....which I sold on Ebay for $750. So that one kind of worked out....lol. All good Coley

Re: What did you find for your truck and you said WOW
I've had wows finding a lot of parts for a lot of trucks. I have one that is "one of those" stories.
With my '72 K2500 more recently I found a set of 16.5 x 9.75 8-lug slots with 50% tread discontinued 35/12.50 BFG A/Ts for $40. I already had the new suspension trying to raise funds for wheels & tires. I sold the set of same exact wheels, except in very nice condition, for $300. The wheels I bought were as nasty as I've seen...black crud. I brought them back and ran the set for maybe 500 miles before one tire blew the tread off. I decided to sell the wheels off and go with new 16 x 8 steelies. Didn't have time to dismount crappy tires before Carlisle Trucks so took the whole deal. I was asking $300 for the wheels but the tires seemed to be detracting from them. A guy comes up late, just as we were all going to go for supper, and wants to buy just the tires and wanted to do it right then. He only lives about an hour from me so I told him they were his, I would dismount as soon as I got home, and he could come get them. He had absolutely no interest in the slots and insisted on paying me right then and there $250 and I keep the wheels. Unbelievable. This guy treated me like I was his new best friend, a heck of a nice guy. No one could believe anyone could look at the one tire with the steel belts showing 2/3 around and want the other three. I did everything but talk him out of it. So meanwhile there's Big Bill the vendor across the way who had been hollering his offer of $250 ever since I got there. His buddy Bobby I already knew is a fool for 8-lug slots. He wanted to get them for Bobby, who wasn't there, for his birthday. So I tell Bill about selling just the tires and for how much and he still stands by his $250 offer because he was never interested in the tires and now wouldn't have to deal with them. - $40.....buy slots & BFGs + $300...sell other slots ____________________ + $260 own slots & BFGs + $300 sell tires + $250 sell wheels _________________ + $810 cash toward new I had already bought the wheels from Jeg's when they were back ordered on sale for $360 a set (16 x 8 steelies), normally a little over $500. I took the $810 and bought a $1,000 set of Goodyears. My new $1,500 set cost me about $550 thanks to the $40 WOW.... and some real good luck! I might have bought that set if he had told me he wanted $550 I always wanted the slots on there and it looked really good. I was so excited I had bought vintage finned aluminum accessories to go with them. Those were all great WOWs of their own. I found, with the holes how I needed, a pair of dulled Edelbrock valve covers and front & rear differential covers. I still hope to get another set of slots, but I wanted something for regular use/easily serviceable right away.
