Will a 1972 Stepside Tailgate support the use of ramps to roll stuff in and out of the bed??

I'd be supporting 650#s + 240#s for my fat a$$.

I'm thinking not but I figured I'd ask anyway.

Removing the tailgate, and putting the ramps onto the bed, might work if there is a quick release process to get the tailgate on and off.

Thoughts?

I would just lower the tailgate on my stepside without the chains connected and set the L hook on the ramp I made into the gap between the bed and the gate to hold it in place when loading my dirt bike.

@outfield: I had not thought of that.
On the truck I'm considering, I'd probably need to ditch the step bumper as it sticks out far.

I can't help you with the ramp question. But, is it just me or, does that bumper look out of place anyway. Great looking truck regardless!

Yea, I had one of those fancy chrome bumpers on my pickup, so the tailgate angled down a lot.

I'm not sure how much a John Deere riding mower weighs, but I took that up some wood ramps on my step side truck. I don't remember if I rode it or pushed it on myself.

Sure wouldn't want to bend up my tailgate to find out... I don't sit my 300+lbs. in the middle of mine.

OK, so using the ramps on the tailgate is a bust.
Are these tailgates easy to remove?
Looks like it's 2 bolts.
Is there a quick release kit to take the tailgate off?

The '67 stepside I had, I would just unlatch the chains and let the tailgate lay on the bumper. Then the ramps would hook in between the bed and the tailgate. But it did scratch my tailgate a bit as it rested on the bumper. But the truck was a pile, so I didn't care.

Thanks, in the picture 255/60/15's all the way around. Recently replaced the rears with 275/60/15's.
