Underbed Gas Tank for 59 Fleetside??

Hey Guys,

I know there's been multiple gas tank threads on here- could anyone point me to an underbed fuel tank for a 59 fleetside? I'm going with a 5.3 so I'll need the EFI option. The ones on CPP's site specifically say they do not fit 58-59 fleety's.. Looking for something that does require a massive amount of fab work. THANKS!

I used a Tanks inc UT-N under my 59 fleetside. They make the tank for FI application also.

Re: Underbed Gas Tank for 59 Fleetside??

i have a nolimit efi tank under my 58
the bigger tank requires the rear x-member to be moved back (my choice)
smaller tank does not and has a notch around the x-member

Re: Underbed Gas Tank for 59 Fleetside??

I think the frame width on those at the rear is the same as on my 71 and that can be a tad snug for something like a Suburban tank. I've got a 40 gallon suburban tank for the 71 but it will be a challenge to put it in and I'll have to lift the bed off to do it. That one has a 500 Cad and will do some long trips with a trailer on the back though.

77 C 30 dualie, 454, 4 speed with a 10 foot flatbed and hoist. It does the heavy work and hauls the projects around.

I like that Mustang tank because it has the hole for the sender/etc on the top instead of the bottom like a stock Mustang tank.

I also using a Mustang tank in my '58 Fleetside - the Spectra premium F28CFI (69 Mustang with in tank fuel pump and fuel return). The sending unit/fuel lines are on the bottom. One plus is you can remove them without pulling the tank. I used a classic instruments sn34 to solve the sending unit as a Mustang runs "opposite" the factory fuel gauge on the truck.

Re: Underbed Gas Tank for 59 Fleetside??

my issue is i have 29.5 inches width, by 20.5 inches length. I went with a C4 corvette rear end and the Anti-Roll bar take up that space. I'm probably best off to have a custom tank made with my dimensions. Here's the images..

Jeeez man, what kind of power are you putting into that thing? That's one beefy rear end.

Re: Underbed Gas Tank for 59 Fleetside??

haha! Its actually not as beefy as it looks. We are going with an LS 5.3 - The bracing over the rear is just to add support to the frame since we had to remove the original crossmembers & C-Notch for it to fit. Here's more pics of the room I have to work with for the Gas Tank... The anti roll bar is the reason we had to demo that crossmember.

I might just have a kustom tank made to my dimensions.

Re: Underbed Gas Tank for 59 Fleetside??

have you checked out boyds?....you might have to redo the rearmost x-bracing to clear a tank...would be easier to get a tank set and then build your x-bracing around it

Re: Underbed Gas Tank for 59 Fleetside??

Here's the Pics! I have 29.5 width by 20 inches to work with: keep in mind the rear support is just for mock up to keep the frame square and will be taken out.

I'll look into boyds - Thanks!

Re: Underbed Gas Tank for 59 Fleetside??

he also custom builds tanks to your needs...and you can get it with the pump already mounted as intank pumping..
look at some of the other year model truck tanks...you might find one that'll fit your needs..
