Help with adding oem style tach.
1969 GMC will be installing a new Tachometer Instrument Panel Gauge Cluster Set. My original doesn't have a tachometer but I would like one installed with one. Where do i connect to??

Re: Help with adding oem style tach.
If you send me a pm with your e-mail I can send you a set of (pdf) instructions that I developed which outline how to remove the existing dash assembly and re-install with the Tach.
Its detailed and includes needed tools, time, methods and specifics....so far so good with it. If you do it right...you can have your existing system out in about 15-20 minutes and re-installation, although a little longer....should still go well. All good Coley

Re: Help with adding oem style tach.
A question to ask is whether or not you have an existing gauge instrument cluster or dummy lights

Re: Help with adding oem style tach.
The top one is the one I have now. The bottom is the setup I want. Rpm, clock, added, no booster. Pretty much the bottom is the one I want. Wanting to know how to wire that up. Thanks.

Re: Help with adding oem style tach.
Title is a bit misleading. OEM (Original Manufacture Equipment ). Sure looks like you want an aftermarket set up. Lots of guy here should be able to help and have done that conversion.

Re: Help with adding oem style tach.
I would also assume that whomever sells that aftermarket cluster also provides wiring instructions.

Re: Help with adding oem style tach.
That bottomcluster looks like a Classic Instrunents set up and if that is the case you can get what you need from them and in fact I believe you can get electronic sensors so no wiring needed.

Re: Help with adding oem style tach.
If you need any help with this, let me know.
Classic Instrument clusters do need wiring. They need input from oil sender, temp sender and dash lights wired as well as VSS input from trans and tach signal from ign coil. They also need speedometer and tach calibration which is clearly stated in the instructions provided by the company with the cluster. If you want to have a stock style tach cluster built, I can do that for you if needed. Hope this helps, Tom

Re: Help with adding oem style tach.
Thanks everybody for all your responses. I did check and it is a classic instruments cluster. I called them up and they said all sensors and wiring are provided with the exception of One sensor but I forgot which one.
