The vacuum hose that goes to the transmission needs to stay. You would have it with or without a lockup convertor. AFAIK, the only extra thing going to the transmission that is related to the lockup is the wiring harness. If you disconnect it, save the wiring harness in case you ever decide to put it back on. I had to buy one at the dealer and just the plug cost me $27.

I have heard both that is is okay to disconnect it and that it is not. I guess it depends on who you talk to. I have no personal experience with it. I left mine hooked up. What can it hurt?

I know if you disable the lockup on a 700R4 the tranny will burn up quick because the small lockup TC generates a ton of heat when its unlocked. I think thats how my first one died, or maybe it was the constant power braking.....

drops the RPM's, cause it "locks up" the convertor. Then your running 1:1 I think.

lowerdd, you're absolutely right. under normal conditions there is a bit of slippage in a TC, inside a lockup TC there's actually a clutch plate that engages with the housing of the converter, eliminating the slippage and giving a true 1:1 ratio.
