Model Number VIN Help
Just looking for some clarification on my Granpa's GMC. The spid listed the VIN as CS134-ZZ57777 and the Model Number as CS15734. I believe I have a 1970 Stepside 292 made in Fremont. Title is a 70. Someone here said it should be a 69 as the truck is copper with the argent grey hubcaps and gold vinyl trim. Any help would sure be appreciated.

Re: Model Number VIN Help
One Z for 1970 [GMC, Chevy would be a 0] and one Z for Fremont. Dash [-] in VIN is GMC-only. S in VIN means any L6, 292 should be listed in SPID as L25. GMC had some different colors from Chevy. I don't know about what years specific colors were and were not available. The internet spawns a lot of self-important experts, ignore most of them.
I have '71 GMC Jimmy and it was originally Copper. PO painted it Maui Blue and that's its color now.

Ain't just the internet. Know-it-alls have been around since something was worth knowing! I can't tell you how many people claimed that the 350 in my Buick GS was an "Olds Rocket 350".

Re: Model Number VIN Help
Thank you all for setting me straight. I guess the argent silver caps were a 70 option or maybe dealers mix and matched. He bought the truck from Ed Black's Chevrolet according to the bumper.

Re: Model Number VIN Help
Naw, my '68 Chevy C/10 Stepside had Argent Silver hubcaps [w/ red/orange Bowties] on Argent Silver 17.5'' rims when I bought it in 1973. Sure looked stock then. I doubt if either PO had any reason for modification. Such things were not considered important then. It was just a truck.
Your "someone here'' was F O S.
