Fiber Optic cable

So yesterday I was doing some work on my Tachometer dash panel and I found what appears to be a fiber optic cable attached to one of the light bulb sockets. The cable was wound up to be tucked out of the way and not attached to anything else. Does anyone know what this cable is for?

Thanks, Mondo

Re: Fiber Optic cable

It illuminates the shift indicator pointer on a non-tilt steering column.
