i was at a web site today and it turns out that the army bought 30,000 c/k sereies trucks and 23,000 blazers , i thought some of you might find this intresting

Intersting indeed,

I saw one of thoe's 23000 blazer's in the junk yard a few week's ago it was a diesel powered 4x4 model i think it was an '82 but not real shure.

Txstruck actually has one. It's a 86 1 1/4 ton truck with a diesel engine with TH400 and NP208. It has 4.10 or 4.56 gears and terrorizes the mud lands.

I think they all had 24 volt charging systems in them .

the blazers are 3/4 tons, they are trying to phase them out. i am in the guard and we dont even have them. most of our were 85-86 models. They had the 6.2 ltr, and were 24volt. you can also have the centers recentered on hmmwv wheels and use them.

Indeed , the US Army , Air Force & Navy bought in the mid-eighties a lot of those Chevy trucks when they decided to use one fuel only.

This fuel had to become Diesel Oil , the same measure was tooken by all the NATO countries , so my country , Belgium , took the same decision ...

But those morons didn't decide to buy 6.2 Diesels Chevy's...

It is easy for us to find such ex-US Army truck here in Europe , after the withdrawal of the American Forces from Germany...

Yup, the Commercial Utility Cargo Vehicle (CUCV). My father was project manager in charge of buying them at U.S. Army TACOM (Tank-Automotive Command) in Warren, MI in the mid-80s.

Uncle Sam had some problems early on, too. Leaking roofs, severe rusting in Hawaii, etc. But, GM made good on all of them and the quality improvements translated into the civilian product lines as well. I still swear that's why I've had such good luck with my '86!

The 24V electrical system is a NATO standard. It's less prone to moisture problems, etc. The diesels were indeed multi-fuel. I've even got one of those promotional drawings at home somewhere...

Thanks to the CUCVs, some NOS GM parts can still be had from places like Coleman's Surplus north of Harrisburg, PA-- new hoods, rear ends, etc. ...

they were also called m-1008 (blazer) and m-1009 (truck).

Who is your dad? I used to know a couple of guys that worked out of TACOM. I dealt with TACOM more in the late 80s and early 90s than I do now.
I work for the guards and my two trucks for running parts are a 3/4T Blazer and a 1-1/4Ton pickup. I believe both are 86's. Both have 6.2L and 24V charge systems.
