WELL DID JUST AS GMC PAUL SAID......
used the new rubber
used the rope
used the vaseline

used the caulk
went right in....

damn...i sure am glad everybody knows what i am talking about????
you might think it's got something to do with SEX..

used my son to give me a hand pushing and pulling......
man am i happy....

got the used windshield for 50.00 months ago...

I need to put new rubber around my windshield. Have the rubber, but am approaching the task with some trepidation.

I intend to get the windshield out and clean/por15 the flange all around it, then try and put the new rubber and the old windshield back on.

Yours looks good from the pictures, are the instructions you used on the board here?

install rubber into windshield....then install chrome trim....
getter all lubed up ...just the inside lip....vaseline

install rope...i put that tube type windshield caulk around the flange...then went to town....

had to do a little clean-up with prep-sol (don't eat paint)

BUT IT'S BETTER NOT TO HAVE ANY LEAKS

You had allot better luck than I did. I broke two new windsheilds costing $125.00 each

Im going to have one installed by a professional for $160.00 so Ill never install another windsheild ever

I have installed about six or eight of them and only broke one(upper right corner). Thanks for the Vaseline trick. I'm going to try that one next time I install one. I just got a quote last week for a new windshield and was floored by the price. Only $110.00 installed. I paid $170.00 for the last one I bought. Isn't competition in business a great thing.

I'll give you one hint where the gasket came from

Glad you had a smooth and uneventful install!!!!
Heres the directions for anyone interested in doing it yourself.
Remove original windshield by cutting rubber on inside all the way around and push out and dispose ( far nicer than trying to pry it out with hole seal intact and it breaking and making a mess to clean )
After originals removed thoroughly clean flange inside and out where rubber seal rests and file off sharp edges to avoid tearing new rubber on install. Have new seal in a very warm area so is extremely pliable, lay new windshield face down on carpet or similar material and apply weatherstrip to glass, place a chalk line string ( available at Ace Hardware, Menards , Lowes, etc... ) in channel of weatherstrip where cab flange sits when installed leaving a small loop sticking out at the top center of rubber and other 2 ends of string sticking out bottom center, tape the top string loop and the ends of string at bottom in place to hold, then apply thin coating of vaseline to inside edge of weatherstrip that will be exposed on inside of cab when installed, coat cab flange opening with windshield chaulk and get assistance to lift windshield and place windshield in place from outside postioning upper angled corners in opening first then have someone inside cab begin pulling chalk string loop on one side of loop towards top corner while assistant outside cab applies light pressure to glass following progress of person in cab pulling the string, then work the opposite side top, then work string down either side, then pull center 2 ends towards outside bottom corners one side at a time. I find it works best when doing center bottom towards outer corner to grab end of string I worked from top down with one hand to prevent it from moving then I pull the end sticking out at bottom towards the corner, after seal is fully installed apply weatherstrip cement under outside edge of seal, then wipe down exposed area of seal inside and out to remove any vaseline or caulk on seal with acetone on a rag.
Slow and easy and a warm enviroment are the best when doing install.

Where did you get that quote for an installed windsheild? I haven't lookd around yet but, I figured $200 or more...

AND, DO YOU NEED TO GET A RUBBER GASKET THAT IS YEAR DEPENDENT---IE. THE 71/2 USES A DIFFERENT STAINLESS THEN THE EARLIER YEARS------??

Install trim in rubber seal and make sure its fully seated in its groove then install rubber on glass and again make sure trim stayed fully seated in seal, then install windshield. Deluxe windshield seal with trim always use a 71-72 seal with 71-72 SS trim, and 67-70 always use a 67-70 seal with deluxe trim.

What is the difference between the 67-70 and 71-72 trim? I have a couple of sets of windshield trim that I have picked up over the years and I can't remember what year trucks I got them off of. I believe they were pre 71's. When the time comes I don't want to order the wrong gasket. From what Paul said I am assumming the 67-70 is chrome trim and 71/72 used stainless steel. Is this correct? Thanks.

Not too sure about the stainless and chrome year's but from what I have heard the trim is a pain to put in and some glass shop's won't touch it??
