Squiter..new carb fail
Well that didn't end like I was hoping. Bought a "new" carburetor from Ebay for my 16YOs truck. Worked with him and my dad all weekend to get the old one off, remove intake and exhaust manifolds to put on new gaskets due to leaks, put it all back together....only to have a squirter (watch video closely). . !! Waiting on seller to let me know how to handle it. Yes I re-torqued carb. Video on my facebook https://www.facebook.com/Paul.Hakes....type=3&theater

Re: Squiter..new carb fail
What do you mean by ‘retorqued carb’?
Did you mean you pulled it off and tightened the screws in the base plate or tightened the carb down to the manifold? I got the ‘boss’ to play your vid for me. |

Re: Squiter..new carb fail
Since you changed gaskets it's a little harder to figure if it's the carb or a vacuum leak. It's probably the carb but I would spray some starter fluid around the gaskets to be sure there isn't a leak there.

Re: Squiter..new carb fail
Geez.
Rochester Monojets and 2G carbs are so easy to re-build it's almost not worth having someone else do it. I did my first Monojet on a 292 in a C30 farm pickup at the age of 14. It worked on the first go. My second was a 2GC around one later on my Pontiac Catalina. The obnoxious part anymore is getting decent gaskets that haven't been sitting on some shelf for 30-50 years... Gasket paper has acid in it just like the pages in books so it deteriorates just sitting around. Obviously your carb guy didn't get decent gaskets or wasn't careful to be sure the mating surfaces were perfectly flat. You can make the old dangerous toxic Berrymans B9 Carb Dip that really works using 50% Methylene Chloride, 20% Xylene, 20% Cresylic Acid, 7% Ethylbenzene, and 3% Sodium Dichromate but be aware it's a really nasty neurotoxin that also causes cancer. It absorbs right through your skin so don't breath the fumes or get it on you anywhere.
