Importance of crooked crossmember
I built my own small notch and boxed in the backside.
Well poor planning would lead to the crooked crossmember doesn't fit where it should. I see a lot of trucks without this all together. What I'm trying to figure out is can I drill a new hole so it's straight across, drill a hole a quarter inch back so it's less of an angle, or should I shift both sides back so it's the same angle? Any input is appreciated. |

Re: Importance of crooked crossmember
A photo would help. But personally I hate being reminded of my mistakes so I would be all for making it square. As my mom used to say you don't learn from you mistakes until to right them. Although I'm pretty sure she was talking at the bigger picture of raising children and not hot rodding.

Re: Importance of crooked crossmember
Meant to be on an angle, keeps the frame from racking. If it was 90 degrees like the rest and 1 side got bumped it would knock all of them out of wack. Thats how I understand it anyway.

That cross member is supposed to be angled.

Concur with it's supposed to be at an angle. Look at the factory assembly manual. Freaked me out also when I pulled my bed off...
