Stall converter
Thought I'd post this as it may help someone having trans shifting issues. I have a 71 C10, 355 with 9.5:1 compression, 280 duration .450 lift cam and a TH350 built by a local guy. The trans lugged the motor down at idle and the stall was extremely low affecting the take-off and power transfer to the trans and on WOT the shift was at 4000 and sluggish. I have made all the vac mod and TV cable adjustments possible so I bought a B&M Holeshot 2400 converter and a governor kit to adjust the weights and springs. Replaced the converter, installed lighter weights and left the springs and totally changed the driving characteristics. Idles great with no bogging, during in-town driving you can't hardly feel any shifts and WOT from a stop is awesome with the 1-2 shift at 5500 and hittiing hard. So it got real tame in town and kick butt on hard throttle so very pleased with my truck.

Re: Stall converter
I dont understand with that tiny cam why you even need any stall over stock? A stock stall is 1650ish so that wont bog any engine idle. What does the cam manufacturer recommend?

Re: Stall converter
The cam has a very noticeable lope and the converter that was installed is much larger in diameter and in girth compared to the B&M unit. When I dropped it in gear and brake torque with the previous converter it would bog it down. You may be right about a different converter, I think this guy gave me one for a TH400. This converter is easy on idle and really hooks up on acceleration. Really just happy getting this driving really good and performing good, just finished adding a Holley Sniper kit and a few other things to bring the old girl up to date.

Re: Stall converter
^ yep, higher stall converter will make much improvement on even a mild cam upgrade..
had a myriad of combos over the years and now the two burbs I have both have mild cams in them making standing idle difficult.. first thing that came to mind was converter swap as soon as engine/trans comes out, thinking 2000-2400 myself.. my 67 GTO had a nasty cam in a 469, making about 550hp and 11.7 ET.. 3200 stall musinger made it streetable.. hard part to wot throttle put the engine in it's power band and lifted the left front wheel

Re: Stall converter
Wow what a car. I had a 70 bb chevelle. Back then we didn’t shoot hundreds of pics because they had to be developed and paid for.
