51 GMC Engine Swap
Hi. I have a 51 GMC with a 228 in it. I was thinking of swapping in a 250 six cylinder. Will the 250 bolt right in? If not what do I have to do to fit it in? thanks, Ron.

Re: 51 GMC Engine Swap
No, it will not swap right in.
The The pre-62 GMC Chevy's had a different bellhousing than the later 6's. Plus they mounted different. Long story short... You would have to come up with some engine and trans mounts to make it work. |

A 235 Chevrolet engine will bolt to the bellhousing, but you will have to fabricate a front mount.

Re: 51 GMC Engine Swap
There’s a few options out there. The simplest is some side mount motor mounts and a trans crossmember.
Of course, you’ll need a transmission with the GM V8 style bellhousing. You can cut and weld up your own engine mounts. Chassis Engineering used to have engine mounts, but since they’ve been bought by Heidt’s, I don’t know if their inventory is still available. Jimenez Brothers have mounts for Chevy Sedans. Should be able to modify for trucks. https://www.jimenezbroscustoms.net/p...g-kit-complete |
