Cool 79 K10 manual trans parts ?

79 K10 w/4 spd. (L,1,2,3), won't go into/stay in 2nd gear.
Probably a sync. assy ?
Where do you folks find the parts for these transmissions ?

Tried the searches, got me lost.
Thanks

It’s the synchro teeth. Look for an updated SM465 3rd gear (2nd on your pattern) and shift collar. It will fix the problem.

Hey, thanks !
That led me here: https://www.allstategear.com/SM465-4...rts-s/1964.htm

... then to here: https://www.allstategear.com/SM465-3...wt304-11ax.htm

Would this new slider need a new matching blocking ring ? : https://www.allstategear.com/SM465-3.../wt304-14a.htm

Thanks again,

If you’re in there already doing the gear and slider, it’s cheap insurance to replace the 2 synchro rings. You may want to consider doing bearings and 2nd gear synchro as well depending how comfortable you are working on the trans and the number of miles on it.

I assumed so, good .... and thanks for the confirmation.
I haven't opened it up yet, kits look to be reasonably priced.
Will go from here, thanks again !

Re: 79 K10 manual trans parts ?

There is a snap ring on the shaft that jumps the groove & lets the gear walk away from the sycro. There is a fix consisting of a collar that clamps around the shaft & takes the place of the snap ring & fills the gap up where that can't happen any more. Common problem for SM465.

Re: 79 K10 manual trans parts ?

Hi Andy.
Is that modified snap ring/collar part of the "Updated Torque Lock Design" that is sold as a kit ? Or does the new collar need to be ordered separately ?
Do you carry these parts ? I see your store but no website.
Thanks

Re: 79 K10 manual trans parts ?

Hey I can't remember the name (I'm 62 Today!) But I know I have bought them as a separate part.
I've installed about a dozen over the yrs
That's not my store & they don't have a website that I know of but just call them- they real nice folks to deal with.
I only bought one from JG&A the others I bought from Bob Still but he has since retired.
