K-20 frame Questions and pics
So my easy suburban project has spiraled out of control, one thing led to another and i am now down to a bare frame that I just had sand blasted and painted.
Now that the frame is clean I've noticed some imperfections in it, when the frame was originally pulled apart I noticed the front cross member rivets were a little loose. it also took a little effort to get the front bumper bolted back on, I had to squeeze the frame horn in together to get the bumper realigned properly. The truck had no motor or trans when I purchased it so I've never driven it to see how it ran down the road. I just figured now since it is all tor down I may as well fix anything that may need fixing. This is a pic of the bottom side of the frame on the driver side is the flat one and the passenger side is the dip. How off is this? What is this suppose to look like? The plate i'm holding on the top is a straight edge just to show the dip between the driver and passenger side. Last edited by Burbnasty; 03-30-2018 at 12:12 PM. |

Re: K-20 frame Questions and pics
It wouldn't bother me but my cars are usually just drivers.
Looks like maybe it fell off a jack or high-sided onto something

Re: K-20 frame Questions and pics
If those rivets are loose in the cross member I would drill them out and replace with some grade 8 bolts. If it is loose now it will most likely get worse once all the weight is back on. Looks like it would be a whole lot easier to do it now.

Re: K-20 frame Questions and pics
That's typical on these trucks. Check the steering box mounting holes too. I like to add a cross member up by the front bumper too

Re: K-20 frame Questions and pics
I'd probably put the springs/axles/tires on it to make it a rolling chassis, then take it to a frame shop to verify it is squared up to specifications before putting the body on.
If there is an issue, the frame shop would be able to see and fix it much quicker for you which I am sure would mean money saved.
