Cool Need some trans info

Hi I'm new here and I was wondering about chevy manual tranny. I have an 81 C10 that was a 6 cylinder truck with a 3 on the tree. Well I toss the 6 in favor of a 350. I'm now getting a little tired of the 3 on the tree and would like to swap in a 5 speed. Could I yank a 5 speed for a camaro or firebird and install it in my truck? What problems might I run into? thanks.

You could, but the 5-spd out of a F-body is a T5....which isn't known to be a strong tranny. GM never put them behind anything bigger than a 305...in a 4000lb truck with a 350, it proalby wouldn't last too long if you have a lead foot. Swapping in a TH350 or TH400 would be the easiest way to go, but of couse they are automatics.

Cool I see your point

I have a turbo 400 collecting dust under my work bench, but I like stick. I use the truck mainly for hauling my car around so I need a pretty stout trans. Did chevy put 5 speeds in any full size truck? If so what type ?

None that I know of... But there are some three speeds with the granny gear in it, such as the SM465

I've got one if you are near Edmonton Alberta...

They did put 5-speeds in the 88-up trucks. They can be put in, but most require an hydrualic truck. They are worth looking into...but i no very little about them
