Lowering and wheels and tires

Hi guys I am looking to lower my 71 c10 shortbed and I was thinking about 3” drop spindles and 1” lowering spring up front and 5 or 6” lowering springs in the back. I was told I need to run 17” wheels with that setup does anyone know what tire size I should put on the wheels? Also any good ideas on a nice 17” wheel for a 71 stepside? Im taking recommendations.

I am a steel wheel baby moon guy. Look at wheel vintiques. Tires all depend on the look you want.

Re: Lowering and wheels and tires

Ok great thanks That’s an awesome website I like the classic look. So it does matter what size tire for fitting in the wheel well? I also don’t know anything about backspacing. I’m a novice and I just don’t want to spend a bunch of money and not have them fit with the drop I’m doing. I really like the first rallye wheel

Re: Lowering and wheels and tires

2 1/2" spindles and 2" springs in the front. Rear flip for 7" in back.

I have 235 55 17 on front of mine and 275 55 17 on rear. Very happy with that combo and would do it again. zero offset rims 17x8 front and 17x9 rear (4.5 and 5 backspace respectively)

Re: Lowering and wheels and tires

Trucks looks awesome guys I live in Massachusetts so I decided I’m gonna be conservative to start 2.5” drop spindles up front 4” drop springs on the rear. shock relocation kit and new shocks. My question is if I drop it 4” in the back do I need track bar? Also with the relocation kit what size shock do I get? By the way gonna try to keep the stock 15s on it for now for budget reasons

Re: Lowering and wheels and tires

If you read this thread it will help understand a little more clear as to why drop spindles need differant size wheels. A pic on page 2 sjpws how close a 15" wheel is to the lower a-arm using a 2.5" drop spindle.

I also replied to your question about shock relocation.

They claim that a new track/panhard bar isn't necessary, but my experience is at least an adjustable bar, but go ahead and spend money on a super track bar in case you ever decide to go lower.
