DBW Conversion Questions

I recently bought a 5.3 to drop in my 66 C10. It's either a 99 or 2000 engine with the egr tube from the exhaust manifold to the intake. It's also DBC. I think I've aquired all the needed parts to convert to drive by wire if you guys could help me verify. I believe everything is compatable with a 2005 system.

Here's what I have and the numbers listed on them.

ECM - says green and blue on ecm SERV number 12589463 shows 2005-2007

5 pin MAF sensor 25168491 Listed as Silverado 1500 1999-2006

Throttle Body - single connector on pass side 8 pin PBT - GF 30

I replaced the accelerator pedal that was supplied. I'm not sure what the pedal was originally off of, it had a big black cable coming off it so I replaced it with one off of a truck. It's the steel pedal with a 10 pin connector.

TAC Module harness plugs in both the pedal and module.

Can't find any info on the TAC module ...

TAC Module TMD1-160A1 210-131573 12575059 plastic with metal mounting bracket

Is this module compatable with a 2005 system?

I also picked up a differant intake without the egr hole in the side which included the steel fuel rails with single returnless inlet and injectors. After running the numbers on the injectors, 12580426, they show as 05 to 07 L59Vin Z, flex fuel. Are there going to be any problems using these injectors? Don't these injectors flow more than the stock 99-2000 5.3 injectors?

Hopefully I can order a harness for a 2005 DBW setup if everything looks compatible.

I've looked at PSI, Current, and Speartech among other smaller, lesser known companies for a harness. Any good or bad recommendations would be appreciated.

One other question, I originally started a build thread but it's gone so far off that track, is it permissible to start a new build thread?

Re: DBW Conversion Questions

I personally would have stuck with the dbc...but that's me....a lot less headache....ls1nova can set you straight on your dbw conversion...
i used psi harnesses and am well pleased....
I don't see a issue with starting a new build thread....

Re: DBW Conversion Questions

Thanks for the info, I've read where the DBW is easier to set up cruise control on and I'm gonna make this a highway cruiser. Plus, to me, it looks a little more high-tech seeing the newer technology in an old truck like these are ... LoL

By "newer technology" my original plan was a 383 TPI based engine with a 6 speed, I'm looking for a little better fuel mileage than my built 383 would do.

Re: DBW Conversion Questions

That's some good info, and lots of it.

I was just second guessing myself and was looking for some verification on my parts. I will have more questions later ... LoL

Re: DBW Conversion Questions

Hello 66 c10 383. I hope all is well. The dBW set up should work as easily as the DBC, with your LSx swap. I have completed both. I agree with Mongocanfly, DBC is straight forward. In reference to your tac module and foot pedal, did they both come from the same vehicle? If they didn't you may run into a compatibility problem. I've had problems in the past where a mis matched foot pedal and tac module, from different vehicles have given me no throttle response. I have also seen where numerous foot pedals have worked with a single tac mod. Hopefully someone can spill the beans on the perfect tac mod/foot pedal combo. Good luck with your swap. Also, this site love pictures.

Re: DBW Conversion Questions

Look at your TAC a little closer and I think you'll find the part number to be 12573059 rather than 12575059. If that's the case, then it should work. That TAC is for a 2003-5, so you should be good to go. To run the flex injectors, you'll just have to let your tuner know it's a flex engine, and of course the harness will need to be flex fuel too since the plugs on the injectors are different from the non flex.

Re: DBW Conversion Questions

I'm not sure if these parts came from the same truck or not. When I bought the engine and trans I told him I'd rather have a DBW setup so he included all the parts I needed.

Eric, I think you're correct, it does look like a 3 rather than a 5. There's just enough of a scratch in the case to obscure the top portion of the number. Remove the top part of a 3 and it can look like a 5 ...

When I google 12575059 it comes up as a discontinued set of GM heads so that's obviously not correct. When I google 12573059 at least it comes up as a TAC module ... LoL Amazing what one little number can do ...

Thanks for the info on the Flex fuel injectors, too. I may look into seeing how difficult if would be to run this as a flex fuel engine.

I'm sure I'll have lots of other questions ...
