Mirror glue chunked my glass!
When I got my 85 the rear view mirror was not attached to the windshield. I bought some auto parts store adhesive for that purpose and glued it on. A few days later the mirror fell off and took a piece of the glass with it. About pea sized and an 1/8" thick. I moved the mirror down to a clean spot and tried again. Yesterday, I pulled my sunshade out of the windshield and viola, it came off again. This time it pulled a chunk of glass off with it the size of a dime and almost the thickness of the glass! WTH? I expect the glass will crack now and I'll have to replace the windshield. Is this just a bad window or has modern adhesive acquired kryptonite like power ?

Re: Mirror glue chunked my glass!
Your windshield is for sure defective. I see it all the time at the glass shop I work at.
It's not a common problem, but not all that rare. The glue is much stronger than the glass. |
